“Great place for a wedding in Cabo San Lucas!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

We just got married at Playa Grande and it was an amazing experience! Their wedding coordinators are top notch and very detail-oriented. Playa Grande is right on the beach and there's nothing like getting married with a beautfiul view of the ocean.

They have great menu options for a reception dinner and worked with us on every request. Their rooms also have full kitchens, whcih made it an ideal choice for our guests who wanted to stay in their rooms and cook.

Playa Grande is truly one of the best locations for a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas!

I decided to write a review because we often use trip advisor to screen properties prior to booking. I was somewhat worried as there had been several less than complimentary reviews posted in the last 6 months. We booked through intrawest extraordinary escapes and got a 1 and 2 bedroom suite and headed to Cabo without knowing what to expect. The resort is beautiful, and much to our surprise, all rooms had a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. The rooms were fully equipped (minus an oven) with full size refrigerators and were very clean and comfortable. We had no problems with noise and we were delighted to view the theme night entertainers from our balcony. The meal plans are exceptional. The location is the best it could be ... easy walking distance to the marina, lovers and divorce beach, shopping and dining. We have visited different parts of Mexico at least 5 times and this is the first time I have never been sick :) The Mexican people here, without exception, were happy, friendly and hardworking. The scenery is amazing. The timeshare salespeople are everywhere as everyone has mentioned, but despite their persistance, they will let you go. Speaking of that, it is worth a few hours of your time to sit through the presentation at the sister hotel, the Grande Solmar. It is spectacular, although pricier than our intrawest time share BUT you are rewarded handsomely for your time. We had Corey and she was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional and as promised, we did get our activity vouchers. There were NO catches. THe service at the Playa Grande was bar-none, the best we've had anywhere in the world. We also booked the private transportation service. For 4 people, it was 20$ more than the bus and I would highly recommend choosing this option as we didn't have to wait for anyone on either end or make multiple stops.

This March we were lucky enough to take our second trip to Cabo San Lucas and stay at Playa Grande for the second time. The other favorable reviews are right - it's a great location, very beautiful resort and amazing views of the Pacific and Lands End (if you're on the beach). We find our room (2205 - bldg L) to be lovely... tastefully decorated, spacious, clean and with a great view. Our only complaint about the room is the uncomfortable sofa. We know it is mean tot be a pull out, but when it's not pulled out, it is so awkward (deep) to sit on and uncomfortable!

Besides that minor complaint, there are a few other things that potential guests should be aware of, and that PG could improve on:

1. The timeshare pressure is ridiculous - and it starts as soon as you check in. The little system to go see the "hostess ladies" and get the "welcome package" of your pool towel cards and drink tickets is brilliant. But when guests arrive, that's the last thing they want to deal with. They want to get to the room and relax. Even if you can get away without scheduling something with these women to have the breakfast and see the presentation, every time you come and go from the lobby between 8:00 am and 10:00 am you are BADGERED about where you're going and who you are going to see. As a paying customer, who is on vacation, this is none of your business. Unfortunately there is no way out besides the main lobby. I don't like being rude but they force me to be.
2. Pricing of food and beverages (including in the onsite market/deli). Prices seemed to increase quite a bit over 2011. If you lowered them a little or kept them in line, you'd do a lot better. Tip for future guests: spend the $25 - $30 Taxi Ride (roundtrip) to buy some groceries/beverages at Walmart. It is worth it.
3. Internet. While the resort does have WiFi and a nice business center, be prepared to pay per 15 minute increment for WiFi access. PG, it's 2012 and I would think you could include this without hurting your bottom line too much. There are many other places in Cabo and all over Mexico that offer free WiFi. While I"m at it, you could also make the fitness center a free feature, too.
4. Clean the pools and hot tub. This year, I couldn't believe how much sand/soot/floating debris I saw in both the adult pool and hot tub. If you're going to kick us out at 9 pm, do it for a good reason and make sure they are vaccuumed and/or treated regularly.
5. Create a place outdoors for people to hang out and drink at night on site. There were some nights that we were too tired after spending all day (drinking) in the sun that we didn't want to head out to downtown or the Marina. But, if you had a bar onsite that was outside, we would have come down for sure (and spent money).

Keep up the good work with the theme nights. We've been to the Mexican Fiesta twice (the food is okay, but the show is totally worth it... great job entertainment staff) and the Beach Party. Haven't tried the Carnival or the Asian night but likely would if we came back.

Kudos also to the Bell Boys and Conceirge staff. They do an excellent job and are always friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Try the Ridge if you can get it. It's more private and has amazing views of the city.

We loved our week at the Playa Grande. It has it's own private beach, so nice to go for a morning walk on. The pools were great!! The hotel had something special going on everynight, for those that didn't want to venture out for the evening. The hotel is within walking distance from the Marina, flee market, shops and water taxis. We had a one bedrrom, which was very nice and roomy. I loved having two bathrooms!! The room was very clean and had beautiful furnishings!!! We had a balcany off of our bedroom and livingroom, which we could
sit on and watch the whales jump in the ocean. Our check-in was fast and when we stopped to get our towel cards, they tried to talk us into the timeshare breakfast, but we said no and that was it. I thought they would call us everyday about it, but never heard anymore about it. We had a great time and can't wait to return. Bring a jacket, because the evenings are cool!!!

Perfect location, beautiful resort, but the buffets were horrible. Would not recommend getting the all inclusive, as the alcohol they use by the pool was so watered down, it was next to impossible to even get tipsy. There was really only one restaurant that was worth going to. However Miguel at the Ridge made our stay wonderful, and for his service alone, I would most definitely go back!!!!
