“An historic self-catering experience with access to a wonderful Scottish Estate”
Reviewed 11 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

There is safe allocated parking and a separate front entrance to the apartment, making it feel extremely private. There's a lovely grassed area with table and chairs, to the side of the mansion, with wonderful views of the loch.
The apartment itself was comfortable, warm and well-equipped. If you want modern, characterless accommodation then Butler's may not be for you. We really appreciated the fact that the original glazed walls had not been changed since the male servants had been housed there and it was great to find that other original features had been retained, such as fireplaces and door names etc. This really added to the charm of the place.....not to mention the imagination of life downstairs!
We had pre-booked a tour of the main house for our last day and we were glad as it was well worth it; it was the highlight of our week! It was great to see all the grandeur and to hear about the fascinating family history from Jackie, who was truly brilliant! We also found the house tour helped us to see how the Butler's apartment fits, in relation to the whole house. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here, it's so special!

“Charming, with early 1900s feel”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

It felt like we were staying somewhere the characters in Downton Abbey would stay! The early 1900s air pervaded everything, from the tilted hallway, to the originally named rooms, to the stunning estate house it is a part of. Everything was just as the agreement with the tenants said it would be, even the cot and highchair set out for my toddler (it's fairly kid friendly, we only had to move a couple decorative items out of his path). The grounds were lovely to explore, Loch Awe being right there as well as the well-cared for Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens. Our only complaint was that the tap water was discoloured and we didn't feel safe drinking it; we purchased drinking water while we were there. Other than that, we loved the atmospheric experience and would stay again!
