I have stayed there many times. The hotel is very clean and basic and centrally located. It is a beautiful hotel as well as are many others in San Miguel! It has become non-competitive when it comes to price. I had to go to the courtyard for the wi-fi to work - should advertise wi-fi in public areas. Old hotel - thick walls thus makes for impossible wi-fi in some rooms. It is a likable place, however for a little more money you can get the same and more with a pleasant staff.

However, the reason I am writing another review is that the front desk employees could care less about the customers. The young lady when we checked in was almost argumentative and the young man in the morning when we left was just absolutely rude! Rude! Really could care less.

Room Tip: Check around for better places. No need to deal with that staff! The cleaning staff was very pleasant.

We arrived at the hotel on the tail end of a busy weekend in Mex. They did have rooms, but only at 1100 pesos a night. This was a beautiful room, cool, quiet and full of history. The next two nights we slept in room number 1, at 700 pesos, street side, with cool floor length wooden shutters and a tiny balcony that looked out over the street. Sure the exhaust fumes would pour into the room if the door was open and, sure, the noise was very busy street like, but we still loved it. Great roof top area for singing and playing guitar like no one is watching. No reservations, but I would return.

Room Tip: Check out lots of different rooms to find that room of your dreams.

My wife and I have driven the length of Mexico five times and when we stayed in San Miguel, this was our spot. There certainly are fancier rooms, no doubt there are friendlier staffs, and for sure there must be more private hotels than Parador San Sebastian. However, the price was right, the location was, central, and the old monastery had not lost its charm with its beautiful flowered courtyard. We usually stayed in one of the high ceilinged front rooms, a touch less charming than the courtyard, but serviceable. Once we stayed a week in the rear apartment where we could do some cooking - serviceable and basic. I liked it best on the roof where the spires and rooftops of San Miguel were spread out in glorious arrangement. In the evening the egrets and other water birds would stream by to their evening roosts. 100 yards down the street I could take in the view of the Cathedral or in the evening watch with fascination the taco maker rapid fire the food to hungry crowds. For us, on a budget meant to last the winter, San Sebastian fit the bill. When we were last there, they did not take reservations. This actually worked well for us and we would plan to arrive early in the day so as to be sure of an opening. The nicest room is on the second floor facing the road, but also the noisiest. (We last stayed a few years ago, but I see I must indicate an earlier time).

Don't be put off by the "no reservations" rule. We walked in and got a room right away. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful, a little gem in this town. It is spotlessly clean and well looked after. No TV or phone in the room, which is a plus in our opinion, we are happy to walk around town and then come back for a short rest.

We arrived in San Miguel during Semana Santa and were happy to find availability at the Parador San Sebastian. Its location is superb on Mesones about three blocks from the main square. Our room was basic but clean, and also very quiet. The courtyard has a great deal of charm, especially the Cervantes statue. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and found it good value for the money at $550 pesos per night.
