We chose to stay in Parador San Sebastian 'cause my fiancee already stayed here the previous year. It has been a good choice: the parador is nice, quiet and very well located. I would advice to book one of the largest rooms as standard ones are quite little and dark; staff showed us both types available and let us make our choice. We had a small living room with kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom (no window) and a balcony overlooking the street beneath, where drunk mariachis sang for most part of the evening!!! Very nice indeed.

Parador de San Sebastian at Mesones 7, steps from the Plaza Civica, is one of the great "finds" and "deals" in Mexican travel - particularly so in a popular destination such as San Miguel de Allende.

Being in San Miguel de Allende is like wandering amongst the exhibits in a livling museum of Colonial-era culture in Mexico, in the "Cuna de Independencia" (the cradle of independence) and the rooms in the original, older section of this hotel (overlooking/looking onto the central courtyard) are period-perfect and staying in them will transport you back in time.

The hotel is so very conveniently located to take advantage of all there is to see and do in San Miguel de Allende. The Plaza Civica is steps away. One of the two principal markets in the city is a block away. The Jardin Principal is less than a 10-minute walk from the front door of the hotel. An excellent Spanish-language school - Academia Hispano Americana - is situated across the street. A bakery is next door. An internet cafe is across the street, as is one of the original cantinas in town. A bus to the "mirador" (for wonderful photo taking) and a major new shopping center (with large grocery store, movie theaters, etc.) leaves from 50-feet of the front door of the hotel. I could go on and on talking about how convenient this hotel is.

Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was spotless. Hot water was available 24-hours a day. There was a fireplace in the room and an extra quilt/blanket in the ample closet. There was a writing desk and two very comfortable sitting chairs in the room.

And what did all of this historical environment and comfortable accommodation/location cost: MX$350 (for one or two persons). About the equivalent, at the time, of US$25. An outstanding value in a destination where paying US$100 per night in a hotel is commonplace. Don't be put-off by the low-cost.

Parador de San Sebastian does not accept advance reservations, however - and that fact may deter others who want ro need to have confirmed lodging someplace before arriving. Weekends and holiday periods will find the hotel the busiest. Mid-week accommodation should be readily available.

My husband and I stayed there for a couple of days for our honeymoon it was recommended by a friend who lives in San Miguel. The price is very cheap for such a comfortable place. The only room left was a double bed it was very spacious the bathroom and everything over all was clean. The customer service was ok not complaining. But i loved the terrace it made it more romantic and it's not far from all the restaurants and bars. It was a great experience we'll hopefully go back on our year anniversary this year.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while looking for an apartment (found one fast) and chose this hotel based on the previous reviews and price. We paid $300 pesos (about $30 USD). They still don't accept reservations (they are very adamant about that) and we loved it. Don't worry about the place being full, you will most likely get a room and if not there are plenty of other hotels in town. The taxis don't use meters and each trip is 25 pesos whether you go 2 blocks or to the other side of town. They might try and charge 35 pesos if they know you are a tourist. The place is a converted convent with lots of tile and flowers everywhere. Not a professional hotel so don't expect professional customer service from the staff, just lots of smiles. There is a good Spanish school across the street and just a few blocks away are many good restaurants in the area of the Jardin (main plaza). The rooms were immaculate and clean smelling, the linens very soft and the bed semi firm. Ceiling fans in many of the rooms (they don't have air conditioning because with the average temp below 80 degrees F they don't need it). Ask to see at least 2 rooms before choosing one. The first one they showed us was very small. The next one was bigger with a closet and a bigger bathroom. Don't put toilet paper in the toilet. Their septic system (a few hundred years old) can't handle it. When we have visitors come to town, they will be staying at the Parador San Sebastian.

The place is great there is a great Garden has everyone says .. Unfortunatly a never knew there was a roof terrace I really miss that. . we had a Room in the very back on the hotel it was ok with 2 single bed as a young couple we put the bed side by side... which was... ok!

The front desk did not speak a word of english not a word. and were not very smilly either. The room though was very clean and the bottle of water was great. The location is great and if you go , you have to try the little tacos stand in front of the market at night they are the best I had in my trip to Mexico. 10 pesos we can afford it hahah !
