It's a picturesque few blocks of stalls, but you won't find much more treasure than you can in Laredo or Tijuana.

A mixture of cheap and nasty souvenirs and really nice hand crafts. The longer halls which run between Calles Loretto and Colegio are where you will find all the nick-nacks and hand-crafts. At the eastern end you can find the clothes, food and produce sections.

Put aside a good 2 hours in your day to fully explore the market. Best to visit after 11am as stores are all on Mexican time and slow to open if you go too early.

We spent two weeks in SMA and frequented the Mercado de Artesanias many times. We shopped there, as most do, and brought home many beautiful linens, dishes, clothing and art, but what we really really REALLY loved was eating there! We had a couple of really wonderful late breakfasts from the food stalls, and some really tasty lunches as well, all for under $5.00 for two people! We were typically the only non-locals eating, so it felt like we were getting very authentic Mexican meals. We also brought lots of goodies home from the market, including fruits, produce and amazingly beautiful fresh flowers. I can't emphasize how inexpensive shopping and eating there is. And the people watching, is of course, just excellent! We just loved this place!

This mercado has artisans from around the area and country. It is clean and well organized. The selection is amazing and the quality of wares above average. It is just a few blocks from the center of town.

San Miguel is such a tiny town there is no doubt you will wander into this craft market sometime during your stay. it's really fun to walk through a skinny alley of colorful booths and a great place for local handicrafts and souvenirs. it is especially great during the weekends when out of town crafters sell their arts inside the open market. you can find endless silver jewelry, some local gemstone, art objects, textile, tin/glass craft, ceramics, weaved handbags, embroidered blouses......the price and the selections are not as good as La Ciudadela in mexico city but the location is fun more beautiful and festive.
