Ty’n Rhos Country House. Staff customer service perspective! “OMG like comparing day & night”

Overrated – Expensive – Staff Customer Service Issues – Stunning Location

Before writing this script I noticed a posting from Steph H from Cardiff and the pathetic response from this hotel establishment. So! I am not at all optimistic that my offering will move this hotel into any form of action or response to justify the difference in behaviour of its staff. Probably best described as a generation apart, day and night. Basic knowledge of customer service rules! Train your staff to be always helpful, courteous and knowledgeable.

This world-wide extensively travelled company director, actually booked this one (1) night only stay at this hotel via Booking.com website as a last minute walking trip to Snowdonia & Ogwen Valley. GCD – wife (Sissi) and her two university female friends from Japan & Thailand respectively. Arrived late evening after walking in Snowdonia, we were warmly greeted by the young ladies on reception and the young guy in the bar. Who offered us help, details and recommendations for a local Indian restaurant?

During breakfast a senior member of staff uncompromisingly reminded us that she would attend to our needs in due course. Like a little boy first day at school, I resumed my place at the table.
Reception checkout was an absolute joy and eventful when presented with the invoices by a senior staff member “Hillary” Without boring you too much, an uneasy - uncomfortable debate took place. (Q&A) … (A) Could you please show the correct name on the invoice, not the lady from Japan on both invoices and divide the invoices financials between the two rooms? (A) This is how we received the booking. (Q) No Hillary I actually made the reservation on behalf of all four guests, please a simple request I do require my name on the invoice. (A) Not sure our computer system can change the name. (Q) The customer is asking you to change the names and I will pay for my room only. (Time Marched On - Oh Dear – Totally Failed) Finally I paid the full amount for both rooms and we departed the building with haste. Never to return.

Good customer service is the lifeblood of any business. You (Ty'n Rhos) can offer promotions and deals to bring in as many new customers as you want, but unless you can get some of those customers to come back, your business won't be profitable for long and the staff who think that customers are an interruption - inconvenience to their daily routines will wake up one day, finding they have no jobs, in an area heavily dependent of tourism and repeat customers.

Good customer service is all about bringing customers back. And about sending them away happy! Happy enough to pass positive feedback about your hotel business and services provided, who may then recommend and in their turn become repeat loyal customers.

Is there anything more exasperating than telling someone what you want or what is the problem and then discovering that that person hasn't been paying attention and needs to have it explained again? “No thanks to dear Hillary in reception for doing us no favours” ((GCD - Sissi & Eastern female friends))

T'yn Rhos is in Selon, a hamlet mid-way between Bangor and Caernarfon. The house has views of the Menai Strait and Anglesey to the north, and Llanberis and Snowdon to the south, and is set in well-tended gardens with farmland surrounding them.
The public rooms and conservatory are furnished very comfortably as you would expect in a country manor... no plastic or vinyl here!

We reserved a table for a celebratory dinner on a Tuesday night and dined extremely well. The menu, which changes every day reflecting the seasons and availability of locally-sourced foods, had dishes which pleased and satisfied the vegetarian in the party as well as the omnivores. Diners order either a two course meal (appetizer and entrée or entrée and dessert) or a three course meal (appetizer, entrée and dessert) both options prix-fixe ($45 or $52 per person). Wines are extra, and they have a well judged wine list. Our party opted for appetizers and entrees but added the desserts later when they saw the dessert menu.

We often stay at this hotel. The staff are friendly but professional. The food is very good. The Superior room we stayed in this year overlooked the garden (larger than the standard rooms) and was very clean, large and very well presented. If you are looking for a very quiet, small, country house hotel with good food, polite and friendly staff, a lovely large bedroom. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We hope to be back next year.

Room Tip: Best rooms are the Superior rooms overlooking the garden

We stayed here at the beginning of June for 5 nights.

We had booked a small double which was adequate for our requirements, and then had a surprise of being upgraded to a superior room for the rest of our stay which was very relaxing with comfortable sofa and good views

We had 2 evening meals which were well worth the price

Breakfast was very tasty with a very good selection of continental & full English

Hilary & Laura should be very proud of their staff in their professionalism and knowledge.

1st time of visiting North Wales & will definetly stay at Ty'n Rhos again

We stayed here for two nights in July 2017. Check in was very quick and friendly. Our room was clean, nicely decorated with all the expected amenities. For a hotel of this quality I would say the en-suite was quite ordinary, nothing special however it certainly wasn't a problem with it. Breakfast on both days was fabulous, a good selection of continental food and quick quality hot food was also served. We didn't eat dinner in the evening however the location was great for travelling into local villages to find something that you fancied. Our main purpose of our visit was to walk snowdon and again the location for this was fabulous. While not a cheap hotel it certainly met our expectations and I would consider booking again in the future.
