We booked very last minute which wasn't a problem at all, and had a sainsburys delivery arrive before we did which Fenella accepted and even put the cold stuff in the fridge for us.
The roads leading to the cottage can have some large puddles in the rain (but we were on a motorcycle so a car would be no problem!), but it was easy to find with the postcode in a satnav. Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome straight away, Fenella told us everything we needed to know about the cottage (heating, water, check-out etc) but we were left to our own devices after that which was lovely.
The cottage itself was spotless and very well equipped, even with fresh flowers, cake and a lovely bottle of wine. It was lovely coming back to the clean warm house after a day of getting rained on while hiking!
We ate in the Seven Stars pub which is about 10 minutes walk away, the food was outstanding and we can recommend the Czech lager they have very highly! The people there were also very chatty and welcoming and we got some great recommendations of things to do during our stay from them.
Overall a perfect short break, wish we could have seen the bluebell woods behind the cottage in bloom but just a few weeks too early. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet location with easy access to some lovely countryside and walking spots.
A clean and well appointed cottage in a pleasant rural setting. Good walking area in easy reach of Malborough and Devizes.
Thanks Fenella for such a warm welcome! We stayed just three nights and the cottage was the perfect place to relax and unwind -- a very secluded spot, really comfortable bed and all amenities were to a very high standard. The garden and woodland beyond are so peaceful and beautiful. There are several great pubs within 15 min drive and we had excellent meals at two of them. A great spot for walks too with the choice of the canal toe path on your doorstep and the Wessex downs and Savernake Forest just a wee drive away. We'd love to come back sometime. Highly Recommended!
We chose All Saints as our base to explore this beautiful part of the UK. We were not disappointed. Fenella and All Saints really does tick all the boxes, she certainly is a natural and has not let any detail escape her touches of hospitality. The cottage is set back off a no through road, surrounded by its own private garden which falls away into an enchanting forest (I would love to see the drifts of bluebells in Spring). The Old church where Fenella and her family live is hidden behind the hedge. The interior of All Saints was designed by the previous owner (an architect) who used the accommodation as their studio, Fenella has since added her own touches which ensures that guests have everything they could ever want to make their stay relaxing and comfortable. Everything provided has been well thought out and is of an excellent standard. Fenella has a superb manner to make guests feel at ease, and is not at all intrusive. The booking process, directions on how to find All Saints from every direction, the website, which highlights the local area, cleanliness and attention to detail are all second to none. We stayed at All Saints for 12 nights and explored the area covering, Avebury, Stonehenge, Silbury Hill, Wiltshires white horses. The market towns of Marlborough (twice weekly markets Wed & Sat), Hungerford great for books and Antiques. Bath speaks for itself. Salisbury the enchanting cathedral, climb the spire for a great view of the cloisters and surrounding countryside. Don't miss a peep at an original Magna Carta. We walked up and down the 29 locks at Caen Hill on the Kennet & Avon canal, short drive to Highclere (aka Downton Abbey) at Newbury, visited the picturebook villages of Lacock, Castle Coombe. Drank ginger beer at the famous five hideaways of Corfe castle and village. Ambled up Gold Hill at Shaftsbury, marvelled at the beauty of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. All this to do and the local pub within a short stroll. Do you get the idea this is the perfect place to stay if it be a quiet weekend or an adventure !
My husband and I (oh dear, I sound like the queen!) have just returned from a weeks holiday in this perfect cottage set in the most tranquil of surroundings. Booking was straight forward and Fenella, who owns the cottage, responded quickly and professionally. She made us very welcome from the start, carefully explaining everything we needed to know, and saying not to hesitate getting in touch if we needed anything. Fenella and her family live in the converted church in the grounds of which the cottage is set. The gardens are extensive and we were invited to make use of them but there really is no need as the cottage has its own secluded area of lawn bordering on to woodland. The cottage itself has two sets of French doors and a long window, all looking out onto this area. The architect designed cottage is lovely and the pictures on the website don't actually do it justice. It is clean, tastefully decorated (I loved the pictures on the walls) and we had everything needed for a self catering holiday. Fenella left a generous welcome pack, including cake and wine, and some lovely flowers for us to enjoy. There is lots to do and see in the area, many wonderful walks by the canal or in the open countryside,, interesting towns within a half hour drive, such as Salisbury (brilliant market on Tuesdays), Devizes and Marlborough and and many ancient sites to visit (Avesbury, Stonehenge etc). Recommend Honeystreet Cafe on the canal, the Antelope in Salisbury and Tea Inc in Devizes for eating. I would strongly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting an away from it all holiday with lots to do do within a short car ride. We booked a second weeks holiday next May before we came away as we enjoyed our stay so much.
