“Once again, perfect.”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This was our 2nd stay at West View and once again it was perfect. I cannot really elaborate more than on my previous review except to say that this cottage is absolutely lovely. The saying goes "you get what you pay for" but in this case you get much more than you would expect for this reasonably priced cottage.
To us it felt like going home as we had been before and once again it was so welcoming. You get a lovely welcome pack. I suggest that you call off at the larger co-op on the outskirts of Portree to get your groceries as they have a larger selection than the co-op in Portree . The local grocery store in Uig (Rankins) sells everything in moderation and the petrol station in Uig also sells groceries.
Back to the cottage. The views over the ocean are to die for. The sunsets are equally spectacular. We walked down to the local bay most evenings( think it's called Bornesketaig Bay)and just sat at one of the picnic tables and watched the water etc. Walk wise, it's a little further than it looks but worth the walk.
When we stayed last year we were lucky enough to see basking sharks at Lower Milovaig so we went back again this year. No basking sharks but we saw dolphins. Lower Milovaig is a turning off just before you reach Neist Point at Glendale. It's signposted Miolovaig. There is nothing else there. No toilets etc. Take a seat with you and prepare to wait.
Please see my previous review re this cottage.

“Peace and tranquility in stunning surroundings”

We stayed here for one week with our dogs. From the outset, booking with Karen was a pleasure, Karens approach to communication was with the upmost diligence ensuring a swift thorough transaction with all questions answered with a positive passion about her rental property. A week before our arrival date we received the most comprehensive welcome pack ever seen! If you had a question before you arrived, the answer was in there and the directions were faultless. Well done Karen!

The house:
On arrival at the house the first thing you will notice are the well kept lawns surrounding the house and the gardens are fully enclosed and safe for children and dogs!!!
Once in the house, you are greeted with a small yet functional utility room which leads straight into the large kitchen. You will notice the quality appliances in the kitchen and the quantity of good utensils, crockery and oven dishes etc.. I would like to say for the price of this accommodation, this has been the best stocked kitchen we have come across!

There is a good size dining room and living room leading off the kitchen which flows into the hallway. The downstairs bedroom has one very comfortable bed and equally comfy/supportive pillows, not the sort when your head hits the pillow, the stuffing disappears. The ensuite provides you with an excellent clean electric shower with good flow rates. We did have a mosey around the rest of the house with equally good proportioned rooms.

The good thing about this property is not only was it immaculately presented, it was spotlessly clean and everything worked, just what you need when you are away.

“Perfect family retreat”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This property is a gem; The listing descriptions are accurate, regarding the layout, facilities etc. But what you don't really get a feel for, from the photographs, is just how homely and cosy this property is. Lots of lovely little thoughtful touches from the owner are also really welcoming. The property is larger than it looks, really spacious and clean. More then enough room for our family, and dog. The owners provided a dog basket and dog bowls for our pooch, who incidentaly loved the garden. The property in in the Trotternish peninsular, with lovely views toward the Hebrides. We were really lucky with the weather and so got to look at beautiful sunsets out the living room window, or from the garden every evening. However, I'm not sure i would tire of the view whatever the weather. The property is close the Uig, The Old Man of Storr, and The Quarring. You can't walk to the pub from this property, but i'm not sure you could walk to the pub from any property on the Isle of Skye unless you were in Portree or another larger town. The owners had left thorough information about local walks, bus routes etc. We really enjoyed visiting Portree, The Fairy Glenn, Borraieng Bay. We aslo visited Dunvegan Castle, and the coral beach near to it, and neist point lighthouse the journey there was approx 40minutes. There is a pebble beach close to the property which is good for looking for crabs (our children's favourite pass time). I'm sorry if the place names are incorrectly spelled.... but you get the idea. We had a fantastic week. I would defiantly recommend this property to my friends, it really is, gorgeous! The owners are really nice too, helpful. friendly, keen for you to enjoy your holiday, promptly answering queries. Fantastic customer service.

Having always done b&b previously we were not sure what to expect but we couldn't have been more impressed. Karen is a lovely person to deal with and the booking of and key collection etc were very straight forward. We got our security deposit back within 2 days of arriving home.
There were only 2 of us staying in the cottage so we didn't need to use the upstairs at all as the bedroom downstairs was en suite. The cottage is really spacious and provides absolutely everything you need even down to expensive wooden coathangers and not those horrible wire ones. The views from the windows over the ocean are lovely and we saw some brilliant sunsets. Missed the sunrises as the bed was so comfy. Cottage is situated at the far end of a lane of about 6 cottages so you are not overlooked at all. We never pulled the curtains all week. There are lovely walks all around including down to the lovely bay where we went each night with our torch as it was pitch black which made it more exciting. As you would expect on Skye there is not much to occupy children if they are not into scenery and walks but the cottage garden is completely enclosed so they are ok in the garden watching the sheep etc
Portree is the main town and provides a co-op from where you can get your groceries as does Broadford. There is a grocery shop in Uig called Rankins and the petrol station in Uig also sells groceries. The cottage is about a 10 min drive from Uig allowing for all the stops at the "passing places".
There was a lovely welcome pack on our arrival which was greatly appreciated after an 11 hour drive.
Point of interest, we went to Stein Point where we were lucky enough to see basking sharks. We were told that there were minky whale there the previous day. We saw dolphins whilst coming over on the ferry from Malaig and we saw a sea eagle around Uig.
We were fortunate enough to have glorious weather all week arranged courtesy of Karen.
We will definitely go back. Hope this review helps

“Absolutely fantastic, best holiday ever”

Firstly I would like to say that Karen was extremely helpful with absolutely everything, the slightest little thing and she was there to help.
The house itself was absolutely brilliant. There was a few of us travelling, myself, my husband and our son shared the master bedroom on the ground floor and when we arrived Karen had provided us with a lovely blow up bed for our son which helped brilliantly. I must also say the bed in the master bedroom is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, we had the best nights sleep we've had in years in this bed. My in-laws had a bedroom upstairs and we also had two of our single male friends with us who got a room on their own. There is ample space in this house and with us being a large group we did not feel cramped at all.

We had everything we needed in the house. There was even some tea and coffee in the cupboard for a much needed cuppa when we arrived after a very long drive.

The location of the house is fantastic. There was a bench outside which we moved to the side of the house so we could watch the beautiful sunsets every evening. My husband and I took a drive round the top of the island at sunset one night and I must say it was definitely the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life.

I cannot fault this house or Karen and her husband David. They were so helpful very kind. David's paintings displayed in the house are lovely.

I would recommend anyone wishing to stay in Skye to stay here.

There is a co-op in nearby Portree where we got all of our shopping from which was a 20 minute drive away and in Uig there was a small shop where we could get milk etc.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this holiday.
