“GREAT STAY!”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Amazing resort! Amazing Ski Vacation!

There is a gondola that you takes you from the bottom of the Westin up to the base where you take a chair lift to access the rest of the Beaver Creek runs. At the end of the day, you take the gondola right back to the Westin. Extremely convenient!

The villas are beautiful and well equipped. There is a grocery store about a 10 min walk away so we actually ate in most evenings.

We WILL BE BACK!

I stayed with my husband and 2 kids ages 5 and 7 at the Westin for 4 nights. The hotel has some good things going but many others were sub par for a property this expensive.

Pros: ski gondola is right at the hotel so if you are hitting the slopes directly, it helps. The rooms are nice and spacious, the apres ski has $5 drinks and small plates. The concierge staff and the ski valets are friendly. The buffet (only on Sunday's) is delicious.

Cons: The biggest issue we faced was the sofa bed in our room for the kids was absolutely horrendous. It was almost as if they put a sheet on springs. You could feel every spring in the mattress on your body. A call to the front desk staff evoked a "our sofa beds are not heavenly beds" response. We did get a down comforter to add on top the sheet but that barely helped. Our young kids didn't complain too much but I cannot imagine any teenagers or adults sleeping on it.
The front desk staff is uptight and very adept at terse replies. There is only 1 cafe open for breakfast which is expensive. The food was good but the wait staff was unfriendly and I had to repeatedly ask for basics such as ketchup and jam.
The cleaning crew gave us 4 bottles of water the first day, 3 the next and 2 after that. Very inconsistent! Other minor irritants included not having a kids menu available after 9pm and no indoor pool.

If you are skiing or renting equipment or have your kids in ski school at the Beaver Creek village, I would recommend looking for something in the village itself. The hotel gondola does not go to the village center and you need to take a bus from the gondola stop.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the service issues you encountered with the front desk, and the wait staff. We work hard to train and motivate our associates and we take pride in delivering an outstanding experience. It is thrilling to hear how you enjoyed the spaciousness and benefits that only a villa can provide. If your travels bring you back and you allow us the opportunity to better serve you, we recommend you request one of our Westin Heavenly Rollaway beds. Without a doubt this will be more comfortable than the pull out sofa. It has a mattress and box spring of similar quality to the Westin Heavenly Bed that was in the master bedroom. Currently breakfast is being served at both the Market and the Lift Café; on Sundays of course we serve in our restaurant Cima. Keep in mind in-room dining can be a very convenient alternative. Finally, in addition to the many choices you have to rent in both Avon and Beaver Creek, the most convenient when you stay at the Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas is Beaver Creek Sports located next to the Lift Café and across the plaza from the gondola. We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. We hope to have the opportunity to better serve you in the future.

We stayed here for 6 nights in early February and had a studio villa which is basically a hotel room with a 1/2 kitchen so you can cook some food if you want to. Our expectations for this place were very high given the cost and the previous reviews. However we had quite a few issues while we were there, and I probably could have lived with most of them had it not been for the fact this is supposed to be the best ski resort hotel in the US.

The washer broke on it's first use and needed to be replaced. We had dirty dishes in the cupboard that needed to be washed. Every night at between around 6 to 8 our villa would fill with everyone else's cooking smells. There was a lot of noise from people allowing their kids to run up and down the corridors. and despite all the hype, the bed wasn't especially comfortable.

Set against all that the hotel is very clean and modern, and is in a great location. It has people working there that all seem to be having fun and want to to have fun too. I'm sure we could go there again and not experience any of the problems I've listed again.

We did have to spend time being given a presentation by the SPG Timeshare or Shared ownership people who are on the property. I seem to have found an easy strategy that turns them off very quickly but it still meant we had to spend just over an our there to get what I was promised.

Overall I would definitely stay here again but purely because of it's location - nothing else.

This was my second stay at the Westin - for leisure (skiing) on both occasions. This time we were there for 8 nights.

There are lots of positives:
- the room was very comfortable
- the car and ski valet staff couldn't be more helpful
- the gondola is 20 yards from the ski boot room
- the local restaurant bus stops rightt outside the hotel and the bus stop for Vail is 100 yards
- the gym is well equipped and the hot tubs/pool are great after a hard day skiing
- there is a running trail along the river right out front of the hotel

For a hotel of this standard I don't expect them to fall short on some of the details:
- Sunday breakfast in Cima restaurant was a disaster (see separate restuarant review)
- our request for a (paid) upgrade in resonse to a Westin email was overlooked
- I didn't find the front of house staff to be particularly helpful. Someone forgot to give us the standard 20 minute induction to reacquaint us with the hotel facilities, local restuarants, bus facilities etc. Make sure you ask since it is helpful.
- a package I arranged to be delivered wasn't passed on and despite a phone call the night before we left to ask for it to be tracked down my wife waited 25 minutes for it when we checked out (the package actually arrived 6 days earlier and was clearly labelled)

Overall we had a brilliant holiday but there is an inconsistency to the customer experience that would need to be addressed before we return. Next year we will be looking elsewhere.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback. We are extremely happy to have you describe our villas as comfortable, our staff as helpful, the fitness center/pool and hot tubs as great. The proximity of the gondola and the Avon Transportation Center (bus stop) right outside our front door is truly very convenient. We are very sorry you had such an unpleasant experience in Cima. This is not the typical experience we hear about from our guests, and we shared your feedback with the appropriate persons who manage this facility for Richard Sandoval Restaurants. The Westin Villas as a timeshare resort and part of Starwood Vacation Ownership is unable to accommodate the upgrades that the adjacent Westin Resort is able to offer. While we do rent rooms, these upgrade benefits in the timeshare world, as one would expect, are exclusive to our highest tier home resort owners. Again, not typical and we are not sure why we failed to notify you of the package we were holding on your behalf. For this mistake and the time you spent unnecessarily tracking it down we do profusely apologize. As you may or may not be aware, our concierge team works 7 days per week, available to serve you prior to arrival, at arrival or anytime throughout your stay. During the busier times we have associates stationed both in the main lobby near the check-in desk, and also just inside the main entrance of the Villa Building for concierge purposes. They are always eager to serve. We do hope you will remember the positives and reconsider us as a place to stay on your next vacation. Until then, be well.
