“Best meal in 2 weeks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

Altamar is a fantastic seafood restaurant, with impeccable service. Not average but definitely fine dining. Pricier than more touristy places, but worth every penny. Best fish, best appetizers, best desert we had in Yucatan.

“Devilishly good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

We ate here twice in our time in Tulum, and also stopped in for drinks. The pulpo a la diabla was mindbogglingly great. Also very good ceviche, and the small tray of pre-meal appetizers was great as well. A standout drink is the spicy margarita. It's not staggeringly spicy, but gives quite a kick!

“Go for the fish”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2012

This restaurant is just off the main street in Tulum. There's not a lot in the appearance to differentiate it from the many other restaurants in town. However, the food is excellent . We shared the cebiche and a couple of fish selections as well as the octopus over the two nights that we ate there. The presentation of all the dishes was very nice without being fussy, but the food was absolutely wonderful. The service on both nights was attentive, but not hovering. The wine list for wine by the glass was limited, but we were able to find good wine to accompany the meal. The prices here were just a little more than what one pays in Tulum, but if you want a really good meal, with attention to the cooking and presentation, go here at least once. The chef/owner is Chilean according to the staff, and he has brought a South American flair to the fish dishes.

“Excellent food in a relaxed friendly atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2012

The Altamar was recommended to us by the owner of the Secret Garden hotel where we were staying. This was definitely a great recommendation! We had an excellent meal and service was friendly and professional. On the menu were choices of a variety of fresh local fish as well as meat. Great desserts also especially the chocolate cake. Would definitely eat there again!

“Great fish restaurant in Tulum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2012

Good service, excellent presentation, reasonably priced and of course wonderful food. We ate here twice - a nice alternative to all the standard fare Mexican food served up along the main strip.
