“Paradise Found!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

If you are looking for what I call a "Myrtle Beach" atmosphere, go elsewhere! This is a quiet, relaxed environment. It was a perfect place for us. We had five children ages 2 through 9 with us, and my daughter who is gluten intolerant. All were accommodated. We were literally steps from the ocean (gorgeous!), pool, restaurant, and bar. The service was excellent. All of the staff were great with the kids. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The only recommendation I would have is perhaps a little shop with snacks and souveniers available, as the location is not near any shops. You can have the huge places--Petit Lafitte was perfect for us, and we all hope to return.

Dear Theresca50,

Thank you for choosing Petit Lafitte for your family vacation, we are delighted to hear that you found our hotel to be a very nice over-all experience.
We enjoyed having you and taking care of your gluten free requierements for your daughter.
We are considering a little shop, we actually used to have one, but the government excesive requirements and demands forced us to close it. We will try again sometime later.
We are very happpy to hear you hope to comeback.
That would make all of us staff very happy.

Give our regards to all of your family and see you next time.

Sincerely,

Iván Fuentes

If you are looking for a relaxing beach getaway, away from crowded gigantic resorts, this is the place. Petit Lafitte has friendly staff, clean rooms, good fresh food and is right on the beachfront. My boyfriend and I never felt crowded, liked that we could hear the ocean from our room and that our balcony had a partial ocean view; it felt like we had escaped to a little tropical paradise. We liked that we could take long walks along the beach, relax under a palapa on the beach during the day and get to enjoy the little beachside bar for lunch and for a drink after dinner. Breakfast and dinner were nice and fresh; it was nice to eat outside under a thatched roof and look out towards the ocean every day. And we found the area around PL a great place for photos. The staff were excellent and very helpful! We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor, in building 200 have a partial ocean view.

Dear Gina B,

I am so glad that your boyfriend and you, had a great time at Petit Lafitte.
We agree, Lafitte is about finding pleasure in the little things, the sound of the waves, the swaying of palm tree leaves, the singing of birds...
Of course, some margaritas may just serve as enhancers of the sensation! :)
Good food helps too.
Eating underneath a palapa, 20 yards away from the water, with an ice-cold beer on your hand...Isnt it what life is about?
I mean, yeah ...one has to pay their dues, but this is the rewards.
We at Petit Lafitte are very happy that you found us and liked us.
Thank you for writing about it.

My daughter's first comment, upon looking at the beach from the porch of our bungalow, was that "this looks like paradise." 'Nuff said (but I'll say a little more anyway). Bungalows are rustic -- toilet clogged one day and we had some ants, and you get a beach towel when you check in that you use all week. Dinner is a set menu every night, with 2 choices of main dish. If any of that throws you, this probably isn't the place for you. Those are about all the "negatives" I can think of. The staff is great -- polite, helpful, friendly, willing to practice a little Spanish with you, etc.etc. Without exception, top-notch people working there that added so much to our stay. Beautiful fruit selection every morning, great toast (homemade bread? tasted like it), great banana pancakes, huevos racheros, etc. Sample the cocktails -- wonderful, fun, professional bartender that knew his stuff and obviously took pride in his drinks. The mojitos and margaritas were the best I've ever had (including places like Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill). Beach is BEAU-TI-FUL! Some nice places to swim, great sandy beach to walk on. Candlelit dinner outdoors every night was great. Nice, mellow, relaxing vacation. Myself, DH, and 2 teens all agreed we'd come back here in a heartbeat! Go and enjoy!

Dear Travelplannermom,
If life is a collection of experiences, imagine how awesome it is to have your kids come to a place that evokes your daughters "this looks like paradise" comments.
They are lucky to have a Mom like you and we are lucky to be part of that experience.
I gather you found "Paradise" sometimes includes a little trouble (ants? toilet clogging?)
We will continue to work to solve those and continue sharing this collection of experience with our guests.
Thank you for trying us and for writing about it.

Best Regards

Iván Fuentes

My wife and I recently stayed at Petit Lafitte and had a fantastic time. The service is top-notch, all of the employees went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and kept the grounds in top shape. I would suggest springing for a bungalow, definately worth it! This is a great place to get away from it all and relax. We will be returning!

My wife, five year old daughter, and I stayed at Petit at the end of January for a week and we found our time very pleasant. The food was fairly good, the staff was very kind and helpful, and the resort though off the beaten path, was quiet and relaxing.

The bungalows were not the largest but, did accomodate the three of us pretty nicely. The shower in our cabin was a little weak and leaked into the living area a few times during our stay but, it was not a hassle. The AC did give out but, again the staff being helpful, allowed us to move over to the next bungalow without any issue.

I would recommend this hotel to those seeking a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of the city area and traffic. This is a place geared towards a slower pace. If you are looking for a lot of activities and a lively atomosphere I would look more towards a larger resort.

For those looking to stay here seek out Caesar for he was very kind and helped make suggestions on where to go, what to see, and where to eat. Thanks Caesar for all help.

Dear Jrice,

Thank you for writing your comments.
I am glad to inform that we recently sealed the roof of Bungalow 14, where you stayed and placed a new, larger AC unit. I am glad that in spite of that you viewed your expereice with us as a pleasant one. David our concierge tells me that you even considered extending your stay, but airline fees were absurd. So maybe you sign us a rain check and I sign you our promise that we have resolved the issues you mentioned in your review.
We are trying constantly to improve our services and according to those goals we have also changed water heaters in the bungalow area.
One again, thank you for choosing Petit Lafitte for your vacation with wife and daughter.
See you next time.

Truly,

Iván Fuentes
