Everything was fine with our stay up until the night that we returned home from dinner (at the Fisherman’s own restaurant) to find a note on our safe, telling us that our valuables had been left out in the open and a word of caution to use the safe in our room. I’ve attached the note for reference. During our entire stay, we have been religious about using our safe during the day, and especially that day, since it was the first time we had cleaners come. I opened the safe before dinner to remove my laptop. We didn’t bother shutting it again, since we wouldn’t be gone that long, and no one else would be entering the room. You can imagine how distressing it was to find that note on our safe, which was now LOCKED without a code we knew, leaving us unable to access to our valuables. Eventually, we learned that a maintenance person went into our room, during the ONE HOUR we happened to be at dinner (the hotel was well aware of our reservation time, as we had to reserve dinner through the front desk.) Apparently, the maintenance person was there to change a light, though we did not have any missing bulbs, nor did we request a new one, NOR did they notify us that this would be happening. At almost 8pm at night. During the middle of our stay. When the maintenance person saw our safe was open, he called security, as is their protocol, apparently. When security arrived (which means that we have NO IDEA how many people were in our room while we were gone,) it is their standard practice to PHOTOGRAPH all of our valuables, and MAKE NOTE of their locations around our room. The security guard tried to play this off as if it was normal, even attempting to laugh and roll his eyes when we explained that we were upset by this. He half-heartedly attempted to show us the photos on a digital camera, which was not cooperating. We still don’t know what photos of OUR STUFF they have personal access to. He then asked us to immediately sign a document that we consented to security opening our safe, which they only had to do because they LOCKED IT in the FIRST PLACE. Then, when we called the front desk to get a more comprehensible explanation, they tried to tell us that the maintenance person came in the afternoon. This was a bold-faced lie, since we have specific memories of returning to the room and opening the safe ourselves at around 6pm. The note did not appear until after dinner, we re-entered the room around 9pm. We are 1000% clear on that. The fact is, this was a sketchy move, made much worse by the lack of empathy, response, and sincere APOLOGY from the management, who said there was nothing they can do for us, except to send us some fruit to our room. The same fruit, that we are aware made other guests of the resort violently ill. Not much by way of recompense. We were told that because we didn’t have the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on our door at that time, they have full rights to enter our room whenever they please. As you can imagine, this was unsettling on many levels. I would urge you to think twice before staying here, knowing that these are their policies, and this is how they treat their customers. Needless to say, it was hard to feel safe and protected for the duration of our trip.

Amazing stay! Great, friendly service. Tucked away in a gated community with Mayan ruins in the park across the street. A short walk to the action of 5th Street. Bikes, kayaks, boogie boards, catamaran and so much more to use freely. The food was delicious. Everyone on staff deserves to be commended on their service. They do their jobs with enjoyment! Best stay ever!

This small intimate resort becomes like a home away from home. We love the friendly atmosphere and the welcoming attitudes of the staff. From Marcial's enthusiastic, 'welcome home' to Anselmo's interesting stories, we're always in good hands, whether we need a taxi, a restaurant recommendation, airport information, or a towel. Our housekeeping staff does an incredible job of keeping our rooms sand and salt free. The fact that you are always steps away from the sea, with swimming, kayaking, sailing so close makes a vacation here very special. Cooling off in the infinity pool just before bedtime ends a perfect day. The daily yoga classes by two knowledgeable instructors made reading by the beach for the rest of the day guilt free.

I stayed at Fisherman’s last week with my family. The entire week stay was great but what stood out to me was the restaurant wait staff during nightly dinners. Gabriel Romero is a baller - does it all and does it all very well, very personable and helpful. Eduerdo is amazing, Raul is amazing, Lalo is amazing, and also the sweet little Maria is amazing. They made us Mexican coffee and it was phenomenal. This fine young wait staff is a great asset to this resort! Keep doing what you are doing!

I must say this year we so enjoyed Fishermen’s. The staff were very friendly, the recent renovations are beautiful. The food we had was exceptional. You can’t beat the location of this resort. Beautiful sandy beach in a gated area. Loved our week there.
