We spent 3 nights here. The room was fine, nothing special but quiet, clean and spacious. Good toiletries and towels. Could have done with more power points. Not a major gripe though. The pool is not really big enough to swim in and we never saw it used.
The noise from the nearby club Il Negrito was very loud , however we liked the live music and as it stopped about 10.30 we slept OK.
Only 5 minutes to the sights so well locatd.
it's not really a hotel, just a B&B as it only does breakfast. That is a wee bit basic as thereis not much choice. No juice offerred e.g. Helpful friendly staff. Car parking over the road. WE enjoyed it. All the other guests were tourists. Make of that what you will.
We thought it fitted the bill nicely.

Lovely small hotel, close to the center of town, friendly staff, comfortable room, generous breakfast served in a sweet corner of the garden. The bathroom is compact yet feels roomy with good complementary toiletries.

We spent a week in the suite, a spacious, bright, airy and private apartment unit on the upper floor. There is a combined living/dining/kitchen space and a separate sleeping area. The bathroom is large with good water pressure and hot water supply in the shower. There is a separate powder room off the living room. The kitchen is equipped with a full size frig, a 2 burner cooktop and a sink. Other equipment (pots, pans, knives) is very basic but you can always ask (as we did for a corkscrew). Room rates include a full breakfast (always a Mexican and non-Mexican option). Staff were friendly and helpful (shoutout for Rene). The location seems perfect - Calle 49 is a quiet street just a few blocks from the Plaza Grande in one direction and Paseo de Montejo in another. The hotel is a small property with only 8 rooms plus the suite. It appears very well-maintained. We would definitely return to the Marionetas.

Room Tip: The suite would be the brightest and most private of the accommodations. Of he regular rooms, the upper floor would be brighter.

For what we paid we thought this was well worth the money. There are cheaper places around but we were happy with our stay. We booked last minute so our first night we had to sleep in a room with one king bed instead of 2 doubles. It wasn't a big deal but the room we moved to our second night was much better. The king room was #8 - try to avoid this one as it's right by the main door and is loud throughout the night with people coming and going. Plus, there was only one small window and it was way at the top of the wall. We were moved to room #4 and were very pleased.

Rooms have Air conditioning, Mini fridge, clean and a good size. Bathrooms were great, hot water with good pressure. The outdoor pool was a bonus. We were walking all morning and afternoon and it was great to come back and hop in the pool. Merida was very hot while we were there. Might not be the best for a solo traveler - I only saw couples and families. Hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the centre. There are restaurants and a grocery store close by. They don't sell beverages but we grabbed a few beers from the convenient store and sat by the pool. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The hotel itself is gorgeous, there is a lobby right off the street, a lovely small courtyard with small pool, and the rooms are in the buildings around the courtyard. We stayed in the junior suite, which was quite large and could accommodate 4 people comfortably. Even though it has a "kitchen" there weren't many utensils or plates, so it would be hard to actually cook for yourself there. This particular room was also up two steep flights of stairs, which could be an issue for some. If you have mobility issues, ask for one of the rooms on the ground floor.
The breakfast was great, and the breakfast cook was a lovely and friendly señora. It included coffee, juice, fruit plate, and a main like pancakes, omelet, huevos mexicana, etc. Just make sure to give her a good tip!
The front desk guys weren't super friendly, I was a little surprised. They were fine, just not very welcoming.
The parking is across the street in a private lot. It's totally fine and safe. We wanted to leave our car there after the noon checkout for a couple of hours and had to pay extra. I would recommend the hotel to cover that cost for guests. It was not expensive and I felt that for the price of our room they should have offered to include the two hours of extra parking.
The pool did not look super clean or welcoming either, FYI
I would recommend Hotel Marionetas, but I would also try another hotel next time in Merida.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues make sure to ask for ground floor room
