This was our third stay in Merida, but our first at Villa Verde. It was a cut above the other places. The architectural detail was stunning. There were many cozy places to sit and read or enjoy a drink. Michael’s breakfast was wonderful.

My wife and I had an excellent 5 days in Merida and the surrounding area thanks, in no small part, to our hosts at Villa Verde. This boutique hotel is centrally-located yet in a tranquil location. The town center is a short walk away. Daily breakfast is tasty in included in the stay. The small pool was pleasure to cool off in and there were loungers right nearby, shaded by an overgrown pergola. There was a bar by the pool but each guest was also entitled to a free beverage (wine/beer/soda) daily. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the air-conditioning kept the temperatures comfortable. The villa, a former residence of a wealthy hacienda owner, was unassuming on the outside but that initial impression was quickly dispelled when one stepped through the large entry into a tranquil courtyard garden surrounded by a colonnade. Four of the 5 guest rooms faced onto the courtyard, the fifth was out by the pool.

Our room featured a high ceiling, large bed and lots of room. The toilet and shower were in a much smaller bathroom than expected for the size of the bedroom. The bathroom sink was outside in the bedroom. We had a drainage problem in the shower stall that was addressed promptly. Bugs were never a problem. We visited in February, a milder time of year - relatively speaking, of course - and while days were still very warm it would cool off enough at night that the airconditioning proved very efficient.

We loved the freshly-prepared breakfasts. Freshly-brewed coffee was available for early-risers but breakfast service did not start until 7. Prepared by the owners, Robert and Michael, the dishes reflected local cuisine. We did not actually see much of Michael during our stay but spoke regularly with Robert who was genuinely interested in our experience at Villa Verde in Merida in general. I should also emphasize that once our booking was confirmed Robert emailed several PDFs with useful information for travel into and around Merida, how to get to the hotel, location of ATMs and favored restaurants among other things. He had a lot more information to offer once we had actually arrived.

A unique experience was the chance to enjoy their annual White Party, the winter counterpart to their fall Black Party. Both are fund-raising parties attended mostly by local US ex-pats.

We highly-recommend you make Villa Verde your base in Mérida; it is much than a merely a place to lay down one’s head for the night. It is an integral part of the Mérida experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Villa Verde, which is located in a perfect location to walk to many of Merida's sites and neighborhoods. Plus, a mid-afternoon dip in the pool was a great way to cool off in the middle of the day before heading back out in the evening.

In addition to the rooms being in great shape, the property as a whole is fabulous to relax, eat, and drink in. Plus the staff go out of their way to be warm, friendly, and accommodating.

This will 100% be our hotel of choice in Merida.

Villa Verde Merida is a wonderful hotel near the center of "Colonial City" Merida. My wife and I spent a week touring the city and locations nearby (Uxmal, Cenotes, Flamingos). The property is extremely well run. From the time you arrive at the airport, to when you depart, the proprietors ensure you have everything you need to feel comfortable and at home. They provided detailed instructions to help guide us to wonderful restaurants, and little known things to see in the area. The morning breakfasts were delicious and the refreshments at the end of the day were - well - refreshing. Don't miss a chance to stay at this wonderfully reconstructed villa in the heart of downtown Merdia.

Room Tip: There is not a bad room in the place. And the proprietors are truly the best...

We made our home at Hotel Villa Verde for six nights/five days in late January 2018, and we relished every moment. When we weren't out exploring El Centro and touring the Mérida environs with Lawson's Original Yucatan Excursions, we usually could be found in our "nest", which is what I called the seating area across from room 4, to the left of the doorway to the dining area. That was where the five travelers in our group would gather in the mornings to drink outstanding coffee while Michael and Robert prepared our just-right breakfast. The nest also was where we would gather after a day of touring, to talk over what we had seen and done that day and to enjoy some tapas and a round of complimentary beverages from Botella Verde.

Even more than the accommodations, comestibles, and libations, though, I treasured the Villa Verde team, which became an extended family to us over the course of our stay. Owners Robert and Michael provided a restful, perfectly appointed oasis in Mérida's El Centro. Upbeat food and beverage servers Felipe and Jhonny kept us engaged and refreshed. Orlando and Jorge contributed to our sense of well-being in their own quiet ways. And, virtually unseen in the kitchen, Jessi and Rufina nurtured us by attentively preparing and plating the tapas over which we socialized at the end of each day.

I agree with everything the other five-star reviewers have written—it’s all true! We absolutely would return for another stay should we have the opportunity.
