We stayed at Jay's house for one week in late March. Jay did so much to help us prior to our trip--such as sending us detailed restaurant recommendations and helping us secure transportaton from the airport to the ferry. After a long day of traveling we opened the front door and the first words we said were, "Oh my god." We saw the ocean, literally right in front of us. The house sits on the beach, with an unbroken vista of the sea from the eastern side. At night you are lulled to sleep by ocean waves. You can watch dawn break over the ocean. And you can climb to the hammocks on the top floor and see the sun set on the western side. This is truly magical and some of our best times were spent just at the house, looking at the dawn or the moon, or exploring the tidepools. You can just walk down the back steps to the tidepools. They're full of hermit crabs and chitons. It's wonderful to watch frigates spiraling over the water and see brown pelicans cruising by.
The house has great amenities--kitchen, bathrooms, nice linens, comfortable beds, and an abundance of beach towels. There's also a washer/dryer, which we found useful as we tried to pack light.
There are three floors: the first floor has one bed and bath, as well as the living room, dining area, kitchen, deck, and plunge pool. The second floor has a deck and the second bed and bath. The top floor is a roof deck with hammocks. The one thing to keep in mind is that the floors aren't connected internally, so you will need to go through the outside door to reach the second floor bedroom. Our nine-year-old didn't feel comfortable with this so one of us usually ended up sleeping with him.
Jay was a wonderful host. One time we locked ourselves out and he had someone come as soon as possible (within the half hour) to unlock the house for us. He was always reachable and helpful. We highly recommend Villa Adioso! It will be a magical part of your island vacation.
The location of this house is perfect on this small and inviting island. Upon arrival on the ferry you are less than a five minute ride away to this beautiful retreat! The house is situated directly on the Caribbean water and each morning you are greeted with a beautiful sunrise over the ocean water off the back deck. The front of the house is situated on a main island street, however the courtyard provides a calming sanctuary offering lush gardens and the sounds of a fountain.
The house is well maintained, offers plenty of room for a family of four and provides beautiful local artwork throughout. You are able to take advantage of the uplifting island breeze throughout the home. You are offered several deck options on either side of the house, with our favorite being the back deck with perfect views of the water, a dipping pool and stairs that lead to the beach. We took our water shoes which allowed us to enjoy walks on the beach in search for seashells. It is rocky along there but breathtaking and relaxing! The top deck which offers a covered palapa and hammocks is an ideal way to watch the sunset and have gratitude for all the day has given.
We rented a golf cart and were minutes from downtown and North Beach (Playa Norte). It is also a safe and easy 12 minute walk. We enjoyed the golf cart as it allowed us an easy and fun way to explore the entire island. We loved the uniqueness of each part of the island and encourage others to make their way around the island to experience the beauty of each area, the many incredible food options and the different waters.
Above all, we were so impressed by the owner, Jay. He goes above and beyond to assure you are well taken care of, prepared and can enjoy each moment in paradise! He truly loves the island and has its wellbeing at heart. He will provide you with not only incredible recommendations for food but will also share pictures and commentary.
We will certainly be back to this incredible island and without a doubt stay at this lovely home with trusted and thoughtful owners.
A friend and I stayed at this house and hated to leave. The views are beautiful; nothing like looking out your bedroom window and seeing all that blue water. The house is very welcoming and well kept. We spent most of our afternoons sitting on the palapa reading and enjoying the view. The location is just a 20 minute walk to to shopping and amazing restaurants. Jay provided us with a wealth of information which was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend this house to any of my friends. Next time I travel with a friend I will definitely stay here!
Sometimes the stars align - this was one of those times. A last minute rental, lucky availability, and the absolute perfect property. We love Isla and have reviewed our favorite places; this is just about the property. This lovely home is located a 10/15 minute walk to town (Centro) on the ocean side of the Island. Jay is the owner and truly helped set us up for the best vacation possible. Instructions, suggestions & communication were all exactly what we needed/wanted. I wish my staff were as thorough, thoughtful and professional. If you are at all hesitant about making the leap to a vacation rental - this is the home to choose, Jay responds immediately to any and every question. I think he may be the defacto mayor as his knowledge about Isla is encyclopedic.
The home has 2 large bedrooms, both with their own ensuite bathrooms and exquisite views of the ocean. Linens, pillows, towels all high end, clean and fluffy. Air conditioning on both floors work great, although we only used it rarely. There is a great breeze through the house when the windows are open (good screens on all doors and windows and surprisingly, no mosquitos). Decor fits the setting - colorful, comfortable, not fussy, tile throughout with some great textiles and local art. The kitchen is fully loaded with everything you need - we only used it for coffee though; too many great places to eat both north, middle and south) Water was provided in giant water cooler style jug with very clever pump. Plunge pool was brisk and clean as was the back "deck" overlooking the ocean. Lounge chairs comfortable - made it hard to leave. 3rd floor is open roof covered 80% by an awesome palapa - lounge chairs up there as well as 3 hammocks. This was our sunset spot for each of our 5 days - no better place for your siesta, and probably one of the best places to watch the sunset on the island. This home is perfect to 2 couples or a family with teens/tweens. The bedrooms are on separate floors and not connected through interior stairs, privacy is guaranteed. The first floor has ample living room seating should you want to hang out inside, but why would you want to? The front garden is landscaped and lovely with bubbling fountain. It was always nice to come back to our welcoming courtyard and comfortable home. After our trip, we are already hoping to make Isla and Villa Adioso our home away from home.
We stayed at Villa Adioso March 21 thru April 1, 2017. It is a short walk to the center of Isla Mujeres. It is on the Caribbean side near the airstrip (which is seldom used). The home is large with a big full kitchen, dining room and front room that looks out onto the ocean. There is a nice patio with a dipping pool. Steps take you to the beach. There is a large bedroom with a very nice closet area, bathroom with a shower. Upstairs is the large master with large bathroom, closet and a w/d. Lots of ceiling fans too. The view upstairs is amazing. You can see both sides of the island. On the third floor is a huge palapa, hammocks, and deck chairs. The garden and fountain are so pretty. We will be back!!!
