My husband and I, and our 2 teen daughters stayed at residencias reef for two weeks over xmas. We were in building 2 on the main floor in a one bedroom suite. This place is quite a distance from town, which we were aware of. We were paying between $40-$50 one way to town. Our plan was to have groceries at our condo when we arrived, and to eat dinner at the beach clubs most evenings. The lady we rented our condo arranged the groceries for us. We paid $15 for delivery, plus 20% extra on top of the price of the groceries. Not too bad. It was our first time to cozumel, and was not sure what to expect. The beach clubs were a few minutes walk from our condo, and closed around 5. They were so, so badly overpriced. Three yardsticks, 4 shots of tequila, 1 beer and 2 appetizers came to $2900 pesos. We almost fell over. Okay, time to change our "going down the beach for dinner each night" plan. We made several trips to town to get more groceries. Which was costly as we did not rent a car. There is a taco stand on the main road infront of the condos that made awesome tacos for a great price. Bad thing was they were open and closed at random times.
The condo was in a very nice location. Hot top was filled in so the patio was large with new wicker furnishings. Inside furnishing were nice. Tv was small and old, but we didnt watch much tv. Our girls slept on the hideabed which was incredibly uncomfortable. They complained every morning how sore they were. We ended up putting the couch cushions under the mattress hoping it would help a bit. Maybe 5% better. The pool was always clean and not too busy. Staff were friendly. Any problems were resolved very quickly. There was no maid service at this particular condo. So I cleaned it up and did laundry every day. Snorkelling was pretty boring infront of the condo. My hubby would go by the neighbouring hotels pier to snorkel, which was still not great. We took a tour with chi chi tours. One of the best times we have had. We have been to numerous islands in the Caribbean, and this tour was pretty much at the top. Great crew. We snorkelled amazing reefs, and then went fishing and caught a massive mahi mahi. We were told we would have won the tournament in the spring if we would have caught it then. We were invited a few times to play volleyball next door which was nice. Everyone who stayed at this resort were great people from all over Canada and the US. Would we go back to this condo? No. We would stay in town or very near it. So many neat restaurants and things to do there.

We stayed in #8380. Plan to go back soon and would love to stay in the same condo! Nice wrap around patio on third floor. Can see a little bit of the ocean behind the trees but mostly you see a quiet grounds with lots of plants. This is a great way to stay eco-green. Clean beach, great employees, quiet place. Maybe offer skinnier pillows for the bed. It was a comfortable place to hang out. It was easy to catch a cab into town but we shopped at the huge grocery store and only ate out twice. We didn't have trouble with night club noise but we did hear them Friday Night on our night dive. There is a great little local taco stand within walking distance and also Carlos and Charlie's bar within walking distance, otherwise, not really a place to eat out within walking distance. Dive boats pick you up right there on the pier.

Room tip: Building #1 close to the beach$$$ #3 overlooks pools. #4 next to Secrets. All buildings are short walk to beach and pool.

We stayed in #8240 in building 4 just after Easter. The condo complex is very nice, well kept, and has good security without being in your face about it. The beach is beautiful, especially for sunsets, and dive companies will pick you up right at the dock. Given the size of the complex, I was worried that it might be noisy, but the only night I heard a noisy party in one of the pools, it was shutdown very quickly by other residents. Secrets next door was not a problem noise-wise but it certainly ruins the view of the ocean for some of the units, especially in our building. The one thing to be prepared for is the distance out of town. We wanted to be out of the hubbub, but you are about 30 minutes out. Plus, there really is very little access to restaurants by foot, so you need to drive for food. Take advantage of being at that end of the island - Punta Sur is a fabulous area, especially on Sundays with the locals that hang out there. Our unit was great - bright, roomy, nice furniture, huge bathroom, and great view from the balcony. The owner, Susan, was prompt in her replies, and very pleasant to deal with. There were two relatively minor issues: 1. We were there nine nights, and we did not have any cleaners come at any time during our stay. We've never stayed anywhere that didn't have cleaners at least every 4-5 days. 2. The kitchen supplies could use some updating and replenishment - eg. there were very few glasses, they didn't match, and including a plastic cup from a nearby bar. Next time we will probably stay closer to town, but we would highly recommend this unit and complex for anyone looking for a quieter and secluded area.

We stayed in two units in February 2015, 2 weeks in 8380 and 2 weeks in 8160. We read complaints about the music next door at Secrets being unbearable at night but have to disagree. It was noisy (we could hear voices and music) until about 10:00 each night but silent after that. We would not hesitate to return and strongly recommend this for those looking for a quiet vacation. Given the choice we would stay the entire time in 8160, only for the convenience of being on the ground floor, both units were more than acceptable. The people, we met many who either own a unit or have been coming to the Reefs for several years, were amazing. They treated us like one of the gang, invited us to all the evening socials, asked us to join their tables at restaurants, on and on. I cannot say we met a single unhappy person here. Hope to return soon.

Room tip: Choose the ground floor for convenience

Stayed in #8350. The condo was perfect and fully stocked in fact the most stocked of any condo we have rented in the Caribbean. Matt and Elizabeth were easy to communicate with and had a notebook with key information and suggestions about where to eat and go. They had plenty beach towels and when we had an issue with no water delivery we emailed them and they had water for us right away before we ran out. You are right on the beach with a jacuzzi on your balcony and a pier tight there to pick you up so the dive sites are no more than 10-15 mins away.
