“Upscale all-inclusive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2012

We had a cloudy week in Cancun, and still enjoyed it, thanks to the beautiful Melia hotel. Seriously, the best all-inclusive food we've ever had! The fish tacos and ceviche were our favorites at the beach restaurant. (You can skip the Japanese place, unless you're hungry for boat loads of okay sushi.) Room service every morning... the "Yhi" spa every evening... this hotel is aiming for upscale and succeeding as best as you can in Cancun. Even the lobby cafe has a dozen or so creative coffee drinks and little cheese plates. Overall, everything was top-notch, despite some awkwardness with the hotel transitioning from an "exclusive" hotel to an all-inclusive resort.

If you're looking for a party scene, there were a couple of bars, and a DJ spinning dance music on the beach every day. To be honest, it was kind of annoying, especially since some areas were roped off and cost extra -- to appear VIP? Whatever! We stayed mid-week, managed to avoid the typical Miami scene, and had a positive, relaxing getaway!

I stayed at the ME Cancun over Memorial weekend 2012. Me and my friends had a total of 3 rooms between us. When we arrived we were all impressed because the hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby is inviting and smells great. However, the elevators are the slowest moving things on the planet. Plus they dont allow more than 8 people per car or else you get stuck in the elevator. Then the halls are darks. The rooms and bathrooms were great. We paid for "All Inclusive" but there is no such thing at the ME. If you call for room service you must pay a $5 service charge in USD each time they bring food. Plus we waited 45minutes to and hour each time we ordered. If the restaurants or other grills were open late then we wouldn't have had to resort to room service. The food was overall over salted; i assume thats how they season their meals? you must sign for every drink and meal at the restaurants and bars. they want tips paid in cash, but everyone claims they do not have change for large bills like $20. When you ask a question everyone conveniently doesn't speak english. they charge extra for things other hotels would include in an "all inclusive" resort. for example: certain alcohol, use of day beds, use of beach umbrellas, mini bar items... And to top everything off. If you happen to have any friends that are staying in another nearby hotel, the ME charges $150 per person for them to visit or go up to your room. Even if you attempt to escort them around the hotel yourself, they will kick those persons out since they did not pay for a room. Hotel claims it is for your safety.

Room Tip: The only way to get good service you must get a room on "the level" which is more expensiv...

This should say for couples only. Just returned on 6/1/2012. The hotel is very warm in all the common areas. The food was better on the excursions than in the hotel. Services was terrible whenever you tried to get a drink and took forever to get our food. Also, my iphone was left in my room charging while I went to the spa and when I went back to my room it was gone. Nobody seemed to be in charge to help. I kept getting passed around. In this day in age with the technology, I find it hard to believe they couldn't figure out who was in my room between 2pm and 4pm. Next time, we will try RIU. It looked very nice

Room Tip: It appears the hotel is undergoing a facelift. They are going for a very modern look but are forgett...

We enjoyed a 6 day vacation at the resort and really felt no reason to venture out past the local Flamingo Mall. The facilities were very nice. The room needed some upkeep on a light fixture but otherwise was very nice and comfortable. We did not get a good orientation about the reservations required for the restaurants when we initially arrived but then the next day, Miquel helped us through the whole process. The four restaurants were outstanding and breakfast was a feast in itself. Every evening, after dinner we made our way to the Rose Bar and Jose took great care of us. He was fantastic at making suggestions for different things to try and was the master of great vodka martinis! We also enjoyed the spa offerings with a pedicure and massage. Very cool, contemporary resort and you never felt like it was crowded. Had a wonderful time!

Room Tip: The lagoon view means you are looking across the road to the inlet/and other condos.

This hotel is fantastic everything rooms, service, pool, beach and beach bar/restaurant was awesome. We had a great time, long days laying on the beach and pool(right on the beach) was absolutely beautiful and not too packed. Gym was good not huge but big enough a few treadmills, never crowded. 5min walk to restaurants. Great place to stay
