“Excellent as always”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

We have been owners now for 12 years and as always, the Royal Resorts never disappoint. There is plans to offer an all-inclusive package later this year to keep up with the changes in the resort industry. We are open to this idea if the value of the ownership doesn't decrease which personally I don't think it will. We shall see. A special thanks goes out to Jose and Victor of the activity staff. My 2 girls look forward to seeing them year after year. They are a valuable piece to the Royal Sands experience!!! AWESOME!

If you need to decide between the two you can't go wrong with either. Both have their unique differences but over all they are GREAT. Friendly staff and outstanding service at both - easy check-in with patience. A lot of beach and beach views from everywhere. Fitness classes and great spa at the Sands. Family activities at Westin. The pool can't be beat at Lagunamar and pool bar happy hour at the Sands can't be missed. Concierge help at both. Great store and express food at the Sands with the Westin providing a small store and taxi service($30) to downtown for food supplies for the week. Flip a coin and GO!

Room Tip: Get a least a 4th floor room to ensure a good view of the ocean.

We are original owners at the Royal Sands and have never thought of trading it off for a stay anywhere else. We have come to the Sands every year except for two during week 11 over the last 11 years and have never been disappointed. What keeps us coming back is the consistent quality of the place, immaculant upkeep, cleanliness and attention to detail by all the staff. The people of the Sands and of Cancun truly make us feel welcome. The restaurants on site are very good, but this trip we tended to order in from the onsite deli since we brought our daughter and our 21 month year old grand-daughter. the service was very good and the food was a very good quality and value. We also found that the prices in the onsite Market to be better than the other local stores including prices for wine and liquor. The facilities are excellent and extremely well maintained -- onsite health spa, 2 pools, 2 kiddie pools,a lap pool, 2 swim-up palapas for food and drinks and much omore. The shows at the club are top quality. There is pool side and ocean beach service for food and drinks -- it's like a paradise. The beach is very well maintained with plenty of palapas, umbrellas and chairs. Everyone on staff including the life guards, maid service, wait staff and resort management makes you feel welcome.

Room Tip: Most views of the ocean are good, but beachfront in Phase II is clearly the best if you like it more...

We stayed a week at Royal Sands in Nov 2011 as an Exchange. The property has excellent location next to Ritz Carlton and Kukulcan Mall (which was very deserted and loosing stores !!) with excellent transportation to/from other Royal Resorts and downtown. Excellent rooms and all other amenities and activities - beach chairs and shades go fast in the morning and hard to get once people get camped on them. The resort restaurants are quite nice - and affiliated Royal Hacienda is an excellent dinner venue (pricey on local standards).

Service is excellent - especially personal concierge assigned to you upon arrival. He/She is quite helpful and a big part of the resort's success. They have made things easy by giving you a card that works as a currency across this and all Royal Resorts - much like a cruise ship, you just settle one account at the end.

Nov is bit of a slow season, but quite enjoyable - mild weather, no rains. Seas were choppy enough that snorkeling was not possible due to stirred up water, all other water activities are very pleasant. We visited XCarat park on an all day excursion from Resort that included transportation (40 miles) and all activities at the park and entrance - a good package. XCarat cultural show is definitely worth it and having return transportation taken care of is a plus since the show ends at 10+ PM.

Royal Resort has new property at Playa Del Carmen and they are actively marketing by taking guests there. Its a day long affair - worth it for just seeing the new area (40 miles). It is a nice property - more upscale - but for now it is bit out of way and "lonely". For initial visits, we would prefer Cancun area over Playa del Carmen. Sales pitches are low pressure which is nice.

Cancun has excellent restaurants, resorts and bars to satisfy most wishes - prices are reasonable, area felt safe even travelling by buses.

Very nice resort with hardly any negatives - would stay there again.

Recently returned back to the States from a family vacation in Cancun. Following a brief two day stay at the JW we moved to the Sands for the villa concept. We wanted to visit Cancun and made a trade on Interval since there is not a Marriott villa in Cancun. Since traveling with our two kids this is the best way we have found to enjoy vacation as a family and not be on top of each other in a hotel room. The villas are spacious here. We had a two bedroom villa which was clean and offered us a great view of the beach. We were on the 7th floor in Phase II and all of the rooms present with an ocean view due to the way the resort is contructed/designed. The staff is helpful and pleasant. There is a small grocery within the resort which allows you to stay on sight if you don't want to consider leaving even to make a quick run to the grocery! You must carry your room card as this allows you to charge back to your room, you cannot just provide your villa number and charge to it, so it is best to take both keys to the pool if you are planning to spend most of the afternoon there. This allows some family to use one key if there is a need to return to your villa while the other key is used at the pool bar. The activity center for kids is great! The kids did several different activities and had fun doing them. The facility is kept clean and pools are heated making it more enjoyable to be in them this spring!

Room Tip: To be closer to the kids pool request a room in Phase II.
