“Authentic Oaxaca”

The home is truly pleasant, as are the warm, helpful owners who live in an adjacent home. Our nine-year-old son loved meeting Judith, Sergio and their family and said that he loved staying in the house, because he felt like he was really living in Oaxaca, rather than just visiting. Oaxaca can be hot on summer afternoons and it was fantastic to be able to return to the house for a swim. San Felipe is a nice retreat from the center of Oaxaca and offers its own local amenities, including restaurants, hotels, a market, stores and the Amigos del Sol language school; but it is a short, inexpensive bus or taxi ride to the center. The house also has parking and is perfect for anyone wishing to rent or bring a car during their stay. Oaxaca itself felt very safe and the people reliably honest (for example, we took taxis almost every day, often without establishing the price in advance, and were never overcharged, even in the absence of a meter). This home is a perfect location for anyone seeking the feel of a village with quick access to the city. The photos and information in the website accurately describe the property. I hope I will have the opportunity to return!

“Relaxed, well equipped, secure, and convenient.”

You will be fortunate to book this lovely house located at the base of the mountains where the air is fresh but only a short bus or 50 Peso taxi ride to Oaxaca City. It has a secluded and relaxed feeling. Supplies and amenities are thoughtfully provided and everything is in good repair. Included is all that a couple or a family might need not only for traveling but for restoration of the spirit. The owners are kind and helpful and have decorated the house with a spacious, comfortable, Mexican artistic flair. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wanted to recommend and commend those responsible for this lovely and safe environment.

“A nice relaxed stay”

Lovely open concept home with swimming option.

Kitchen had all we needed. Comfortable beds, good reading lamps, good internet access, good washer & clothing hng on the line was dry in no time. Rocío Bailón, who took care of the property for the owners, was great and very helpful. She got us out of trouble when we managed to lock ourselves out. Helpful reference books and good selection of interesting reading material. Nice safe neighbourhood (I saw a number of young women walk alone at night after getting off the bus), good grocery store nearby, great coffee shop just down the street. We didn't get to the local market, but it was there often, next to the church. Short 10-minute bus ride to the centre and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for the bus. Several phone calls from the owners (who were in the US) were appreciated. They were gracious with their time and information.

The only negative thing was the rooster who was into announcing himself in the middle of the night. He hopefully has by now filled up a number of tacos or tlayudas. Also, the person who was supposed to meet us there (not Rocío) was not there when we first showed up, but Rocío sorted things out quickly.

Management Response
23 Mar 2014
Thank you for your review. As you know we were unfortunately on a year's sabbatical and missed seeing you. I only know now that somehow our information sheet which we have at the house did not come to your attention as there is a list of nearby restaurants which are within walking distance from the house. There is an un market on a block away in the Hotel Los Laureles, a delicious sushi restaurant ten minutes walk away and typical Mexican cafes just a stone's throw from the house!
