This place could not have been better! We had heard this was place was a real treat so we headed there for our last night’s dinner in Oaxaca. The weather delivered a huge rain storm that was a big deal because the restaurant has an open roof over most of it. Still, they seated us near the bar and carried on as though it was no big deal. While the sky fell, they scurried about to crest an evening of magic. Their menu is top notch and their chefs back it up. This place could easily hold its own with any top notch restaurant in Paris, New York or Rome. We were blown away. A definite wonderful night.

Dining outside on the upstairs terrace is a delightful experience. Around sunset the temperature drops enough to cool the air and you can watch the sunset. The staff is welcoming, friendly and professional. Two of use shared the squash blossoms rolled in fried sweet potato, like small taquitos. We also had the grilled vegetables, squash, tiny carrots, peppers, eggplant, watercress with wonderful side dollops of an apple flavored “dipping “ cream. For dinner we had the grilled octopus which was large and perfectly cooked. We also had the shrimp dinner with six large shrimp on grilled onions and delicate mushrooms. WOW. Full by now, but then we looked at the dessert menu. How could we pass the chocolate sphere filled with chocolate mousse with hibiscus flowers and raspberry sauce with tiny droplets of mint. OMG. We also had two glasses of a Malbec wine and a mezcal cocktail. Total bill 1200 pesos, before tip. About $70.00 for two. Yes a lot for Mexico, but worth every pesos and about 1/2 the cost in a top restaurant in the U.S. A treat yes, and so good we made another reservation. Go here, life is short, enjoy the splurge.

In the end the food was delicious; we are glad we stayed. But hospitality is wanting. We made our reservation well in advance of our trip. When we arrived we were told that there was a private party on the roof, so we couldn't sit there although we had specifically requested it and were told that if it wasn't raining, our request would be honored. We were escorted to a smallish dining room that was filled with noise from the party above-impossible to talk. We asked to move and were taken to the bar. We sat there for a good 10 minutes before anyone came to take drink orders.. we almost left.
