The moment we walk into the hotel El Mesón de los Poetas and saw El Patio de la Palabra we where enchanted. First time in the city of Guanajuato, stayed in the standard double room Manuel Gutierrez Nájera with an artistically painted kitchen bar and room with plenty of space for two. The staff was very polite and eagerly helpful. Since there's no elevator the flight of labyrinth stairs is some what of a workout but so is old beautiful downtown Guanajuato with it's hills, sidewalks stairs and some narrow streets and callejones. Breakfast buffet is served in the Patio, it was delicious traditional Mexican food, fruits, cereals, fresh squeezed orange juice and cafe de olla. For gourmet coffee and espressos it's only two doors down the street just before the Diego Rivera Museum. Everything downtown's shops, plazas, sites, La Basilica, El Pipila, museums, restaurants, etc. is walking distance from the hotel El Mesón de los Poetas. A hidden gem is the rooftop terrace with kitchenette, lounge chairs and a great view of downtown and the statue del Pipila that compliments it's romantic surroundings.
