If you're looking for a local experience in the heart of Zihuatanejo this is the place to try. The service is warm and friendly, Rosalba the restaurant manager is the best host you'll meet.

The head chef Pepe has 20 years experience in hatted restaurants and you'll definitely be able to notice this!

All of the dishes are outstanding and I definitely recommend that you try the tortilla soup as a starter.

Make sure you give this place a try if you want to put the cherry on top of your stay in Zihuatanejo.

We haven't been to Zihua in seven years but we are not surprised to find La Gula as perfect as we remember it.
It's quiet backstreet location is nice after the beaches. The entire meal from the delicious margaritas, starters (the eggplant WOW), coconut shrimp all terrific! Service and attention from the staff all first rate.
Try and go here early during your Zihua visit so you have the opportunity to return before you leave. You'll be glad you did!

Wow! La Gula! What a find as we walked zijua in search of dinner last night! We enjoyed an exceptional meal - starting with a little complimentary appetizer that was just a mouthful of strawberry and pate and a little fresh herb. We find wines always a challenge In Mexico but the house red was awesome and I've included a photo. To start I had a braised pear salad that was peppery and flavourful - very unique. My husband had an eggplant ravioli which was fantastic - no pasta component but an incredible tomato sauce - and I'm not even a big eggplant fan. For a main course my husband had the risotto and I had chicken stuffed with vegetables. I'm not kidding when I say "out of this world". Sorry the pix don't really do it justice. Our waitress Claudia was lovely too. We asked to pay our compliments to the chef and it turns out he and his wife own the restaurant - they came out and were very gracious. One of the finest meals we've ever had and a lovely surprise that it was very reasonably priced. Restaurant is on the second level and easy to miss but a nice breeze and a lovely saxophone player down the street made for a charming and romantic evening as our vacation draws to a close. Don't be in a rush! Service is good but you want to have plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely paced dinner.

Had a wonderful shrimp curry here with service to match! Dined here with another couple from our resort who had been here before it was our first time, 3 of us had the shrimp curry and asked for them to make it spicy which they did, the flavour and spice was delicious! Worth a visit if staying in Zih !
