So many restaurants , street food, the Chocolate Museum, entertainers, art, people, just busy, busy, busy...and we would not miss it for the world. Come down at least every second night and after you have all your shopping out of the way just come to watch the stream of people and enjoy all the food. We did notice more of a security presence on the Malecon and off shore this year but that presence alone actually made the entire area feel far safer yet. On 30 + visits to Mexico we have found the people to be exceptional and all areas we go to quite safe. I'm sure if you are looking for trouble it can always be found regardless of where you go but PVR is no issue if you exercise common sense. We actually walk a 1/2 hour from our resort to get to the Malecon, do the Malecon and then back again, never an issue. PVR is VERY safe. ( avoid the 300 lb, Columbian mental case owner at Casa Di Mi Compadre, near Plaza Genovese , not on the Malecon but on the walk to it, and you can't go wrong.) Bring your camera when you go to the Malecon, they have added even more art work and statuary then they had before. Highly recommended. A must if going to PVR.

We came in the afternoon, our Mexican host said that it would get very noisy and busy in the evening. A bit touristy but still plenty of beauty and charm.

The vendors are out after supper selling everything from jewelry to corn dogs and some of the best cheesecake I have ever had. Then you can walk it off, and watch the fireworks!

Great place to watch the sunset and have a drink. We were there over Easter weekend so it was especially crowded.

We strolled El Malecon boardwalk multiple times - day and night - during our 8-day trip to Puerto Vallarta March 22-29. Lots of small local shops and restaurants. Great view of the bay, great people watching. Hustling and bustling area at night, lots of energy, live music and other street performers. A must-see if visiting Puerto Vallarta.
