Great location on the other side of Malecon. Away from resorts and tourists. Quaint, quiet, friendly. Great spot!
Rooms are decent and clean. The rate for the room is a steal!!
THREE blocks from the beach with an old neighborhood feel. Outdoor seafood market around the corner. Prices for everything here are for budget conscious travellers and for locals.
A MUST!

Room Tip: Request second floor room.

Where else will you find a hotel with secure parking, a good bed, WiFi and a shower with hot water for 160p? In a good sized tourist city to boot. Located in Mazatlan Centro a couple of blocks from the Malecon, this place is perfect for the budget traveler. Definately not fancy but comfortable.

Happy to report, the price at Lerma hasn't changed much since we were last there in 2009. 220 pesos a night for 2 people! About $17 US! Private room with bath! Free Wi-Fi in the courtyard area, free water! This is still the best deal in town! And the secret is obviously out. It's a small Mexican run hotel and the last time we were there, there was only a hand full of gringos and mostly Mexican families. But this time half the occupants where Americans and Canadians. There were still some Mexican families, but the scale was beginning to tip. Seems a lot of Americans are living at this hotel now, or staying there long term. at those rates though, I don't blame them.

The hotel is still clean and well maintained. With daily maid service. They replace your towels and sheets, pillow cases daily. Give you soap and TP. And the grounds are safe. At night they lock the big gate out front so that no one can come in without permission. You can still stay out late and party, since someone is always on duty to let you in. No worries.

To top it off the hotel is only two blocks away from the beach, Playa Norte! And right around the corner from the fresh seafood vendors, the central market and colonial district. There's a really good, cheap, filling breakfast spot named Constanza's Cafe, right around the corner from the hotel on Aquiles Serdán, in the centro. Lerma is still the spot in Mazatlan! My go to spot when in Mazatlan.

Room Tip: Get a breezy room on the 2nd floor. Get one near the hotel lobby for in room Wifi access.

Loved our 2 days in Hotel Lerma. The price is fantastic, the street is quiet, it's a few blocks to the water and a few minutes walk to the colonial district. The rooms are bright with high ceilings and a fan. There are no windows, just wood shutters and bars. I have heard that the building was part of a school. The rooms have sparse furniture and tile floors, the shower is just part of the bathroom, no curtain so the bathroom floor will be wet for the rest of your visit, and for $190 Mx you won't be getting a bath mat, but what you will get is gracious hospitality, a clean room, parking in the courtyard and a good location for walking around Mazatlan. While you can rent a room on the water for $50 US, we found this place charming and friendly and stay again without hesitation.

Our first impression was good at the reception area. The owner greeted us like an old friend. We even talked a bit as he showed us the room. Our second impression was just as good. The room was huge and clean. Also, the room was bright without being too hot due to merciless overheating from the sun. We stayed in Mazatlan a few months back just around the corner from the Lerma and the room was 10 pesos more and about 3 times smaller, so this is a great deal for 190 pesos. Our room, 32, had one double bed, a bench area for bags, a desk and chair, a bedside table, and a private bath with hot water and great water pressure. Two windows provided a cross draft. The front window faced a quiet residential street. Quiet streets can be like gold dust in Mexico, so this made us happy. A previous tip said that in-room wi fi is best above the office. 32 was above, and wi fi worked very well in the room. There is a book exchange down the hall. 5 blocks from the center, 2 blocks from the ocean and oxxo. No tv. The ceiling fan was quiet. Maids wisked away dirty towels daily and restocked the soap and toilet paper. Our stay was quiet for 3 days, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Lerma is an old gem of a place. Almost everything is original circa 1940. It is charming in a very well maintained fashion. Hotel Lerma is run by a kind family with simple expertise. It is a great hotel.
