“Best wheather , best time”
Reviewed 13 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We had a very good time in Govedjari. We found a quiet place as desired. It was a good starting base for our trips in the national park and in the rest of the island.
We enjoyed it.

“Wonderful getaway in a quiet village in the middle of the National Park”

Govedari is on the hill between the two coasts at the National Park end of the island with easy access to the main villages of Pomena and Polace as well as the lakes. There's no shops/restaurants/action in Govedari itself (part of the charm) so it's worth picking up maximum supplies in Pomena on arrival when you get off the boat as you'll be driven to the house! There are plenty of bar/cafe/restaurant options within 0.75 - 2 miles and the gentle walk back up to the house at the end of evening is part of the fun, with an unpolluted starry sky above the trees and nothing but the sound of the cicadas.

We enjoyed great service throughout, communication and advice from the owner Zrinka was faultless. We were met from the boat by the housekeeper Kristina who is extremely friendly and helpful. She also brought us a fully cooked fish meal with wine on two evenings (her husband is a local fisherman) and dropped us back at the boat when we left.

The house is great, efficient air-con, plenty of space and fully equipped kitchen with huge fridge/freezer etc. Sitting on the terrace outside at night watching the (shooting) stars over a cold drink or two is what holidays are for, and coming back "home" after a busy day of pleasure is a treat.

Overall bikes are a great way of getting around and mean you can get far further and to more places, we haggled a decent price for a weeks hire from one of the several outlets in Pomena. They supply lock, helmets and map.

Whilst the lakes (actually sea inlets) are stunning don't miss going to one or more of the endless quiet (in fact usually deserted) rocky coves/shores for unreal clear blue water, great snorkeling/swimming/chilling and utter privacy. Try Lastovska cove the other side of Pomena, Male Blace bay (great walk across little hill from road opposite Soline), and Zazuparra cove off a wooded track on way to Polace (requires mild free-styling through a wood at the end, excellent!). Map on the wall of the house shows all these places and tracks.

Other treats included watching the sunset over cocktails and cold beer sat at the Hotel Odisej "beach" bar in Pomena, freshly grilled fish lunch on the shaded terrace of a little restaurant by the water in Soline (the place the little ferry man goes to/from when he's not chilling under his hat out in the middle) and end of afternoon refreshments in the little galleon bar on the harbour in Polace. Also the beautiful walk up Montokuc (high point of park near Govedari) is well worth the view of the whole park and coast - and we had it all to ourselves.

Overall a fantastic week's holiday, perfect for getting away, nature, relaxation, food and drink, walking, cycling, swimming etc. With a few days in Dubrovnik before and a hop up to Split and the island of Komiza afterwards it was truly a perfect holiday, we shall return...
