Description: The Turnpike in Yarnton is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

My son who lives in NY, USA came home with his wife and wanted a good Fish & Chips, I had not been to the Turnpike for a couple years and it is very good. If you are looking for good Pub Food, this is the place to go. The decor is fine, lots of parking. The portions are generous and the service is good. I highly recommend it.

Aweful steak. Small and mediocre portions of belly pork. Had to order a side of chips just to make a reasonable lunch!

We were passing one of our usual watering holes, near Eynsham, but were disappointed to find it unexpectedly closed. As we were hungry and it was late on a Friday evening I diverted to the Turnpike. I'd eaten lunch there once previously and had found the service and food acceptable on that occasion.
Upon arrival, on a warm summer evening, we found the car park packed to capacity. The garden was also crowded. So, it was with some trepidation, that we entered the restaurant. The manager apologised that there was no room in the main restaurant but we were welcome to sit at a table near the bar and order from the same, restaurant, menu.
The only difference to restaurant service was that we ordered from the bar.
By coincidence we both fancied the slow cooked pork belly for £15.95p. With one large glass of wine and a soft drink (served with ice which we'd specifically declined) the bill came to £48.00p.
The food was served hot and of sufficient quantity that neither of us desired a dessert.
Even though we weren't in the main restaurant, and situated near the kitchen access door, service was attentive and quite quick considering how busy the staff were.
Overall we found it a pleasant experience but I think, in future, we'd pick a less busy time to eat and try to book a table in advance.

The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. With a faulty online and automated phone booking system as well as some ordinary food they need to be. We tried to book and the online and phone system indicated there was no availability. We went after speaking to a real person and we were one of only two couples in the whole pub. The gammon was unpalatable due to excess sodium and the steak was overcooked and dry. The salad garnish "cooked" on a hot plate was disgusting. We were offered a free drink as compensation. That free drink ended up costing 50% more due to an error making the bill up. After pointing the error out a recalculated bill was still more than it should have been. What a shambles.

Family met here after our intended location had closed their kitchen. We sat in the pleasant garden because of great weather. Food was very good, between us we had roasted vegetable tart and beefburger. All in all a very good lunch.
