Harbour Island is one of my family's cherished vacation destinations. In fact, Princess St. where the Whale is located is one of our favorite streets in Dunmore Town. The Whale has great potential, but unfortunately, we spent most of our vacation dealing with delayed maintenance issues. We checked in on a Saturday. The stove did not work and was not repaired until Wednesday. Eating out on the island is outrageously expensive. Our daughter has food allergies which require us to cook all of her food. Trying to prepare dinners in a microwave Sat.-Wed. was beyond frustrating and unacceptable when we rented a house with the understanding that we would have a full kitchen. The stove issue is only the beginning.
The living room a/c and master bedroom a/c did not work. In addition, the condensation line in the attic area leaked into the living room below. Pots, pans, towels, etc. were used to collect the water throughout the week. I have pictures to prove! The guest room a/c was stuck on. We figured out how to remedy that by purchasing new batteries for the remote.
The kitchen sink continued to back up throughout the week. We had a few rain showers during our stay. There was leaking in another area of the living room during that time that fell on the sofa.
We graciously and patiently approached the realty company that manages the Whale.We were told that repairmen and restitution would be provided. Some repairs did happen such as the stove, but 5 days into our stay was unacceptable. Restitution was not provided. The real estate company basically dropped the ball after our stay.
We were told that the owner is planning a renovation. Obviously, the house is neglected. Perhaps they should remove it from the rental market until the home is in working order. As owners of a vacation property, I wouldn't dream of renting our home in such a state.
The Whale has great potential to be a charming cottage on a quaint street in the village. I would recommend you seek another rental in the area until renovations have been made.
