We had a very good time in your cottage. It feld like home!
There was much to do in the neighbourhood.
By train to Manchester, in fourty minutes. Nice walks in the Peak District and the pretty villages.
We visited LymePark and Quarry Bank Mill (both NT).
There were several shops around the corner and two minutes by car, there is a Tesco.
A little gem in Whaley Bridge and I found little or no need to use the car once parked up. Walks on the doorstep a thriving little friendly town and a welcoming well equipped cottage all made for an excellent break Many Many Thanks!!
The location of the cottage is brilliant, just a minutes walk from the local canal and several other walks. The cottage had everything we needed, a real home from home and a welcome pack, bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival were a very nice touch which we appreciated. We visited some really nice places including Chestnut Centre (animal park), which was fantastic, Castleton, Fernilee reservoir and Buxworth Basin. The village had some lovely pubs, our favourite being The Goyt Inn, which was just a minutes walk round the corner as well as a fantastic chip shop which was also just round the corner. Will definitely visit again!
None of these comments are meant to be negative, but I feel some specific elements should be highlighted to future renters, as I would have liked to have known, but all this said, this is a fabulous property for the money, so, not to be put off. There are 2 long/steep open tread staircases to negotiate in this property, my dogs were really scared because of the open treads they're only small bless them & could have fallen through!! so lots of carrying up & down to/from the kitchen, which got a bit tiresome with 2 of them! Also negotiating the outdoor steps to front door and small steps around the rear, one needs to be reasonably nibble/sure-footed to stay here. Also bathroom in basement with kitchen, bedrooms on top floor (more open tread stairs) so bring PJ's or dressing gown as there are no blinds at the kitchen windows which you have to walk through to bathroom. A PLUS POINT however about the open tread stairs is that they are covered with a super coir matting which gives a good grip, so they're not slippy. Also there's a WC on top floor with bedrooms which is brilliant. The WIFI is superb but there is NO VODAFONE signal at all, so I had no communication but I think there was an EE signal, would be helpful to know if any others. The central heating was brilliantly effective when on but useage restricted to minimal timed periods which didn't suit me especially as it was so very cold weather wise at the time, but the notice on the wall says to contact the owner if you want to change the heating times and there is also a log burner as well, neither of which I had time to do unfortunately as I was out early and back late. The cottage is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean, top marks. Kitchen fabulously appointed, everything you need. Generous little touches by the owners, dog treats, wine, chocs, fresh milk, all very welcoming ;-) Large free car park at end of lane, very handy, perfect if you have a big vehicle, easier to park there than at cottage, although no problem for small cars. The location is PERFECT, quaint quiet little backwater, close to all amenities yet off the beaten track and next door to GP surgery, dentist & vet!!..so you're well provided for in an emergency!! Beds nice and clean and comfy, just needed an extra blanket as the weather was so cold. My dogs LOVED the immediate environment, perfect for sniffy terriers and there are lots of dogs in Whaley, very dog friendly indeed and the walks are superb if rather muddy in the wet weather :-( All in all, for value for money, this cottage is hard to beat, it's quite a gem and I hope my comments are received as being helpful rather than critical.
