We stayed at the Taino Beach Resort from 7/3/09 to 7/10/09...Nice beach and nice rooms but do not expect anything but below sub-par on everything else, not even electricity. We had several blackouts that lasted several hours on different days. I understand its hot but workers were asleep on the pool chairs. The pool had the same cigarette butts from the past few days. They were put there by sloppy, loud and without class people but they were guests and should have been cleaned up by the workers in the morning. I own a pool and I can tell how much chlorine is in one. There was none. It was one big urinal. The place was 40% occupied at best but they ran out of beach towels by 10am. Imagine if this place was packed. The service was worse on any island I have been too. Food was expensive at Port Lucaya but service was lazy throughout. This is my third time in the Bahamas and Grand Bahama is terribly disappointing. The 15% automatic gratuity pretty much neutered any motivation for service to improve. I can only recommend Pisces Restaurant in Port Lucaya. If you are a potential timeshare buyer service will magically improve, so if you are willing to pretend that you are actually interested in buying in this terribly managed resort you might get the attention any average hotel will grant you. If you have to go because you own a timeshare do not pay more than $40 to/from the airport and be prepared to exchange old for new bath towels at the laundry every morning. They also run out of bath towels. Stay at the Radisson if you want to go to Grand Bahama otherwise I strongly encourage another island. I doubt if management is capable of improving because they probably do not get paid alot of money and their operating budgets are probably at "highway motel" levels but because of the rooms and the beach it has potential. Don't go until that potential is reached and in this market there is no excuse to spend your money at a place where people act as if they are doing you a favor everytime you ask them for something. Avoid like the swine flu.

me and my husband stayed at the ocean for our honeymoon and we were very disapointed! we chose to stay in one of the older units because we were promised an ocean front room which we did not get, when we asked to be moved they said that they were booked which they were not! the water was beautiful but the beach was not, it was covered in seaweed and never cleaned. all the activities that they offered were very expensive, 75.00 for a half hour on the jetski. there was nothing to do and i mean nothing to do when it got dark! there is no night life or activities at night and the pool shuts down at 6. our unit had no stove and a very tiny fridge so if you go shopping be careful not to buy anything that needs to be baked or kept frozen, the freezer is big enough for an ice cube tray. we were never brought new towels only three washcloths. check out time is 10:00am and they charge you 50.00 for a late check out so if your plane does not leave make plans ahead of time. the resturant was ok nothing special and the drinks are kinda expensive, they charged my husband for a couple of sugar packets when we ran out for our coffee.on the upside the pool was very nice and the front desk was helpful unless you want to change rooms!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. Our experience:

Pros:
1. The rooms were affordable
2. The hotel is on the beach, so just a short walk away to the shore
3. Can buy groceries and cook in the small kitchen in the room, which can save you
money from eating out all the time

Cons:
1. The staff makes a pressure sale of the site activities, while checking in
2. The staff doesn't seem approachable and seem irritated when asked a question -
they were not very helpful at all
3. If it rains, water activities are cancelled for the whole entire day- even if it clears up
later in the day
4. They constantly ask if you want to do a time share information meeting
5. Our room had a very noisy AC unit. It would make a loud thumping noise every time it
cycled off. It woke us up at night.
6. No fitness center
7. No internet connection in rooms, only wireless in lobby area
8. Swimming pool and hot tub water was dirty from sand & dirt tracked in

This is greatest vacation for young families. The pool is the best - waterslide, lazy river, lagoon and a cave bar for mom and dad. The hamocks are so cool too. The kids love it so much you can't get them to the beach! The best sugar sand beach on the island is only steps away (with a play set for the kids). The restaurant view on the beach is amazing and is best for breakfast - the coconut french toast is amazing. It's quiet and peaceful but only a short distance from Port Lucaya. We like to cook in the room and eat dinner on the balcony. The staff has always been very kind and helpful to us. We've owed for over 15 years and keep on going back. Only wish we had more weeks to stay!

Taino/Ritz is a wonderful place for those with young families. The pool is the best - water slide, lazy river, lagoon, cave bar for the drinking crowd - you just can't beat it. Then you are only steps away from truly one of the best sugar sand beaches on the island (the only one better is the Lucayan Park) - it even has a small playground! The property is beautifully landscaped so that you have privacy and flowers everywhere. It's almost as good as the garden they charge $15/person to see. The coconut french toast at the restaurant is awesome! It is close to Port Lucuya (quick ferry ride or 10 minute drive) and all the amenities but peaceful and quiet at night - the true Bahama experience. Some of the rooms are older and need some updating - but everything works or the helpful staff will fix it. We've been going for years and plan to keep going - only wish we could stay longer!
