I have stayed in the perfect 5-star resort (in the Dominican Rep), and I can't give Viva Wyndham the same elite rating, but if I didn't have anything to compare it to, I'd say that Viva was fabulous. The pool area was so pleasant. The beach area (chairs, towels, bar, finger food restaurant) were all clean and convenient and nicely populated (enough people to make it feel like a laid-back party, not so many that it was ever elbow-to-elbow.) The trapeze looked like an awesome good time, but I got rained out or wasn't quite sober enough. I'd recommend that they have it available a couple more hours per day, especially when there's rain during the scheduled hours. The food was the best part. My sister is a bit of a steak connoisseur and says the steak at the gourmet restaurant was the best she's ever had, except for the ones she and hubby grilled themselves in TX. I also had a heavenly vegetarian meal that night. Even the buffet was yummy. No need to eat glamorously when there's a fast, convenient and delicious option a few steps away. Bartenders were excellent. We had massages. There was a slight disconnect between what we thought we were getting ($45 per person) and what we had to pay in order to get what we wanted ($85 pp). Probably language barrier between guest services and massage therapists. But the massages were definitely above average. Room and bathroom were updated and pleasant. Comfy beds and pillows. Below average TV options. Fantastic showers! Shuttles to and from the port were entertaining and safe and clean with excellent drivers/tour guides. We stayed as part of a time-share sales package, so it was much cheaper for us than retail rate. Completely worth what we paid for it.

Room Tip: Excellent views from pool side second floor. Probably not a bad room in the house.

We travelled to the Viva Wyndam in March with our 6yr old daughter. Our check in was long, but we arrived just before lunch, dropped our luggage in the theatre and had to wait until 3pm for our room. Be prepared to change in the washroom from your carryon and you can enjoy the pool right away. We checked in around 1130am and had snacks at the pool bar, but were served lunch around 1230pm at the buffet. Drinks were readily available at the bars. Our room was decent, clean and had everything you needed. A small fridge, tv, beds and a shower. Clean and basic. Our main floor view from our upgraded ocean view room was spectacular. Well worth the upgrade, nothing better than waking up looking at the ocean. Our room was a bit further away from the pool, but it was worth the walk. It was quiet at night and we had a beautiful sandy area to relax and play with our daughter.

The food was good, the buffets were always hot and fresh with a good variety of food. You would never go hungry. The al a carte restaurants were good as well, and we found all the dining room staff at the restaurants and buffet to be friendly. The snack bar offered some great fresh nachos which we enjoyed by the pool.

The staff was amazing. The animation team were the best around. My daughter loved Emma and Paige! These ladies really made the entire trip for her, including her and the other kids in the before and after dances in the nightly shows. The guys from the sport house were also great in the shows, very strong part of the team. I had a blast in the daytime and nighttime interacting with all of the staff-they work so hard and you can tell they really enjoy what they do. Keila, Starlin and Emma on the trapeze were amazing. Eddy, Pina (I am not sure if this is the spelling) and Betty Boop were so fun to watch dancing--Chelsie was a new addition to the team when we were there, but she was quick to catch on to the dance steps and encourage the hotel guests to join. The nightly shows were amazing! We looked forward to seeing the shows every night, and were disappointed at the end of the week knowing that we missed the first nights show because we were so tired. It was amazing to see them all perform, especially after they all worked all day. The energy was amazing!

We enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer while we were there, we loved the beach-it was clean and well taken care of. The pool was clean but way too chilly for my liking--one of the only things that really disappointed me on the trip, but the hot tub made this a bit better. The kids club was great, the staff were wonderful. Mermalade and Paige were so good with the kids. They kept them entertained with colouring and crafting. Outside of the kids club we kept the kids and ourselves entertained with archery, the trapeze, tennis courts, kayaking, snorkeling, poolside dancing -water aerobics and all of the hilarious games the animation team played daily. Bingo Bongo was fun and my daughter loved when Eddy looked so stylish in his bikini top pool side leading water aerobics. She also loved the act with Pina, Paige and Starlin (dressed as a beautiful blonde!) she is still laughing at that.

My only complaint that sometimes the lines for the food and drinks were too long, especially when the cruise ships were in. This was inconvenient, also because these people were around the pool as well which limited the seating but there was always plenty of chairs on the beach which was steps from the pool.

All in all, this was a great vacation. I have been to many places, and this was great value for the money. The entertainment and hospitality from the staff was amazing. They were up and out working the entire time I was awake and out of my room which were long days--and they were always super friendly and happy-enjoying their jobs. The weather was perfect and the beach is amazing. What more can you ask for??! The perfect getaway.

Going back to Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach in a couple weeks. It will be my 3rd time going to the resort. I have only one minor complaint.......the music playlist at the pool is the same everyday. At least it was the last 2 times we were there. Same songs over & over. Need to change it up a bit. Other than that it’s a great value and a great place. Friendly staff and good food. Can’t wait to get there!

I left the Viva Fortuna with mixed emotions for sure. A few cons, line ups... check in, line up, get room, line up again. But enjoy everything for now. Only real kick were the drinks. If you wanted a pop, you were in the same line as the 10 people ordering 5 mohito's or bahama mamas each. A simple fountain machine would make a difference. This is all inclusive, all the soda you are willing to stand in line at the bar for 10 minutes for. The people cued at the bar, so tipping bar tenders wasn't going to help... mixed drinks way to strong, like they really protected that pop....

Buffet had drinks available food was always good, they also had snacks on the beach until late, never had any issues.

Danyo, the Italian chef was certainly passionate about his.. cooking..

Edwin in guest services is certainly the diamond in the rough at this resort, who will shine any where he goes.

Overall room was as much as I expected, and for room service... there only concern was I didn't let them clean enough.

The beach and sun are amazing, my inky real warning.. is watch the breeze...
