My Fiancee and I went for a quick 4 days getaway at the end of March. We booked through Sunwing Vacations and everything from airport transfers to the hotel etc. went smoothly. Once arriving at the Riu around noon. We were told our room wasn't available until 3 pm. However, I saw a few people getting there room keys just after 1 pm so I went to inquire. The lady at the front desk told me again, check in was at 3 so when I asked why some people received their keys to the room already, she hesitantly checked and guess what? our room was ready as well so we got our keys, put our stuff away and headed down to the beach/pool area.

The grounds are not big at all and it is adult only so there was no kids running around which was nice considering I left mine at home and now didn't feel bad about not bringing them ;)

The weather, we were told, was off for the time of year as we had some windy days but we still managed to get in a sun tan :) The food was great, no complaints, and the staff was very friendly. They have a show every night which was ok but not much else going on in terms of entertainment. The great part was, the Riu is right next door to the Atlantis so you can head over there for a night out but make sure you bring some money because i'm sure you will make a stop in the Casino....

Overall, we had an amazing 4 days and would definitely return again in the future.

My husband and I stayed at Riu Place for 4 days at the end of March. We went for a relaxing, quick getaway since the flight is about 3 hours from New York.

The hotel suited its purpose in that it has a nice beach, the food options are easy and diverse, the place is clean, and it’s near some great things to do, like stroll the Atlantis Marina Village, take a snorkeling cruise, go jet skiing, etc. The jerk chicken stand by the pool is delicious. The rooms are generously sized (12th floor), bed was comfortable, large bathroom. The bartenders and waiters are lovely. There are absolutely no screaming kids or babies running around which we were grateful for.

Notwithstanding the above, the three star rating is deserved. We arrived at noon and requested an early check in, told a room would be ready “soon,” but didn’t actually get a room until 3:15pm as we were reminded that check in wasn’t until 3pm. After checking in, we went in search of chairs at the pool - there were none to be had as the pool deck is tiny and gets extremely crowded. We went down to the beach and got loungers there but couldn’t go in the water because the beach was closed due to high waves. This was a recurring theme as the beach was closed 3 out of 4 days we were there.

In order to reserve a chair by the pool, you need to bring down something to place on the chair around 6:30am as the towel stand doesn’t officially open until 8am, and apparently towels, even if available, cannot be distributed before then.

The drinks and alcohol selection are severely lacking as Kalik is the only beer on tap and the mixed and frozen drinks are reminiscent of those served in a dive bar.

The specialty restaurants actually require people to line up for a table. We never did that and just did the buffet for dinner or went to Marina Village.

We discovered the beds don’t have blankets - just a few sheets on top, so we had to pull out the spare blanket packed away in the closet.

My biggest complaint was the pre-arranged transportation. There’s really no explanation of how it works at the airport, you’re just directed to a shared van where your voucher is taken, with no explanation of what to do on the return. The night before we were to leave, I asked the front desk about pickup time. The man at the desk told me I was “supposed to book a pickup at least one full day in advance” and I “should have taken care of it sooner” and told we should prepare to pay extra for a taxi. The tone was arrogant and unnecessary especially in light of the fact that no one, not majestic tours nor Riu, advised us of the protocol. That said, the following morning there was no problem arranging a pickup for the airport. A further issue then arose as the bus driver asked for a ticket/voucher for the return trip, which we were not provided, which needed to be repeated about 6 times.

Overall, the impression was that of a spring break place rather than a relaxing beach-side resort. It was fine so long as your expectations are managed.

Dear guest,

Thank you for choosing RIU Hotels & Resorts for your holidays and for taking the time to share your experience with us.

As a service-oriented hotel chain, we are proud that you have rated our staff very well and since for RIU gastronomy is a very important part of the guest experience, we were pleased to read that you were satisfied with the food served in our restaurants, which is prepared daily with the utmost care and using fresh ingredients.

Furthemore, we are glad that your guestroom, the cleanliness of our facilites and the beach were to your satisfaction.

At the same time, we would like to apologize for failing failed to meet your expectations regarding the beverages. We always try to offer a huge variety in order to cater to every guest´s taste.

As you described correctly in your review, check in starts at 15:00, but we would like to clarify that early check in is always subject to availability. However, if there are rooms available before, our Front Desk will notify guests in order to minimize the wait. Unfortunately at your arrival time, our hotel was booked to its capacity, and therefore we were unfortunately not able to provide your request. However, it is always our goal to achieve maximum customer satisfaction so that our Front Desk team does its bests to satisfy and accommodate all requests from our valued guests.

We do regret the difficulty to obtain a sunbed at the pools as also mentioned in your review. We do our best to deal with the practice of ‘reserving a sunbed by leaving personal belongings or towels on it’ and we have authorized staff collecting the towels that were left behind by hotel guests during the night or early morning, so that fair access to sun loungers is provided.

In regards to the transfer, we do hope you will understand that we are not able to comment as you booked the transfer via a travel agency. We can assure you that customers who are reserving transfer directly via RIU are receiving a transfer voucher with terms&conditions of the transfer company and a step by step guide for confirming the pick up. For further questions regarding your transfer, we kindly encourage you to contact the travel agency Majestic Tours as mentioned in your review, for further questions.

We sincerely hope that we will one day be able to welcome you back to our hotel and have a chance to demonstrate the high standards of guest service that are typical at our hotels.

With our best wishes we remain,

Hotel Riu Palace Paradise Island

Beautiful resort, smooth check in/out, clean room, amazing food and happy staff!

Lining up at the restaurants was a different experience, but the wait wasn’t too long or cumbersome!

The beach is clean and we never had an issue finding an empty chair.

Atlantis is walking distance from the resort so most nights we would go out to Atlantis for shows and other activities.

The only CON is that I wish they had a better entertainment team as there wasn’t much offered at the resort. The shows were mediocre and not too engaging.

EXCURSIONS: Parasailing and a trip to the straw market was perfect to pickup little souvenirs. After 6pm you can walk through the aquarium at Atlantis! Also, a walk by the Atlantis Marina is just so serene!

We stayed at the Riu over Spring Break after leaving the Atlantis and it was a breath of fresh air. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The front lobby has a beautiful mirror and delicious coffee shop. The room was decent size, the bathroom was huge and had two showers.

My favorite part was the pool - it was gorgeous, had a nice view of the ocean, and a swim up bar. It was right on the beach which was great for lounging. I definitely recommend staying here!

This was one of our many trips to the RIU properties but out first trip to the Riu Bahamas property. This site was adult only. We enjoyed the small quiet atmosphere. We went with another couple that had never been to a RIu before they loved it. They loved the food, drink, gym, spa, and entertainment. They said this trip will be a ‘ game changer’ on how they plan future trips.
Very nice hotel. Recently remodeled. We will revisit this site
