We rented ' The Nest' unit for our family over the Christmas holiday. We have four kids ages 21-27. I did a lot of research for the location of our accommodations taking into consideration being close to the town action or more quiet areas of the island, driving on the 'wrong' side of the road and how to let these kids have fun without being in harms way.

The pool and hot tub were good and the exercise room was well used.

We had a three bedroom unit on the first floor. We rented a jeep right at the front desk. The full kitchen could not have been any better equipped. We had a full on Xmas breakfast for 12 complete with pork roast, egg frittatas and corn bread! The unit included many of the kitchen basics like spices and coffee/ sugar so we didn't have to reinvent the wheel just to make a meal.

We ate at Umami at least 4 times. Hiked almost every day. Indigo Grill was fantastic as was Shipwreck Grill. Cinnamon Bay Yacht charters for a great day on the water.

To clarify, you are right across from the water but it's the harbor so not much of a beach. You can swim and saw lots of paddle boarding.

Will absolutely come back again.

We booked our 8 night stay over Christmas at Grande Bay through VRBO. We stayed in Southern Serenity, a 3 bedroom unit in the upper section on the 3rd floor. The views were spectacular. The villa itself was spacious for 5 adults.

We had 2 King bedrooms and the third bedroom had 2 twin beds. 2 full bathrooms with nice sized showers. The bathrooms came with a couple of small (hotel sized) bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, but you probably want to bring your own as these would run out after a day or two.

The kitchen was also very well equipped so we could make breakfast daily. There was plenty of dish soap and dishwasher tablets. Some places you rent only give you a tiny supply but there was more than enough. They even supplied paper towels and laundry detergent and dryer sheets for the full size washer/dryer in a closet off the hallway. We packed our own not knowing how well stocked it would be. Garbage bags are under the sink (you take you own garbage down to the trash compactors in the garage) and there was a drawer with ziploc bags, plastic wrap etc. (We left behind aluminum foil for the next guests.) There is also a cupboard with spices and coffee, etc., that guests have left behind. We added to this collection as well.

The unit itself had plenty of seating. There were 4 stools against the counter in the kitchen, a dining table with seating for 6 and a sofa and loveseat. Outdoors there was seating as well. Being a corner unit, we had seating on both sides. The patio is narrow, but long. This means you can seat up to a “bar” and catch the view side by side, but there is no space for a table. This was a perfect spot for a cup of coffee or to just watch the boats come and go. But the lack of table meant meals where we wanted to have group conversations, or card games, were inside at the dining room table. Many other units have tables outside, but the configuration of this unit does not afford space for one.

Our unit came with an assigned parking space which was very nice. There is also a locker in the parking garage with beach chairs, coolers, noodles and snorkel equipment to take to the beach. We used the chairs every day and appreciated they were the “backpack” style which made it easy to lug all of our stuff.

A greeter from the management company met us at the ferry dock and walked us over to our condo. It is not a long walk but to avoid stairs and get to the upper units, you have a bit of a walk to get there. Without luggage, it is easy to walk down to the garage (or take the elevator), walk across to the front building and walk down to their garage (or take their elevator) and you are out on Bay Street. The location is so convenient to all the restaurants and bars. Low Key Watersports is right next door to rent snorkel gear. (Hint: fill out their online reservation form before you go and get 15% off!).

The upper buildings use the upper garage and the driveway is steep. After a few days of driving the roads on St John, it seems like no big deal, but it can be a little daunting at first. It is a steep incline.

Water tip - there is a water refill station in the garage. For 60 cents, you can refill a gallon of water. We bought 2 gallons of water at Starfish and then refilled them throughout the week. Very convenient!

The gym was small but rarely used so it equipment was always available. The pool and hot tub were nice to have when we got back from a long day.

We all enjoyed our stay at Grande Bay and would definitely stay at Southern Serenity (or anywhere at Grande Bay) again.

Room Tip: The upper floors of the upper buildings have spectacular views

It is is very clean, properly maintained and well-appointed in its furnishings and decor. Its kitchen has everything you’ll want or need for whatever meals you want to prepare. The bath is very nice. The condo is extremely comfortable with lots of space. The washer and dryer make it possible to pack light. The unit was stocked with dish soap, Cascade pods, Tide and bleach. Tracy has provided small, medium and large coolers for beach trips, as well as chairs and other beach gear. The free long distance and local calling are great, especially if your cellular service is with Verizon and you have bupkis for signal. The pictures of the condo are exactly what you’ll find. The only drawback, and it is a small one, is that the mattress is on the soft side.

The view from the third floor was fantastic. The balcony overlooking Cruz Bay was great for morning coffee. Leave the Jeep you rented in the condo’s reserved parking spot while wandering around Wharfside Village and out to Mongoose Junction. There are many restaurants and shops within walking distance, so no need for the great (and expensive) parking hunt in Cruz Bay. The condo is on the third floor so we did not experience the construction or other noise that some have noted in Grande Bay reviews.

Tracy, the owner, is quick to respond to questions or concerns you may have. Gina, Tracy’s on-island representative met us at the ferry terminal, made certain we were settled in before she left and let us know that she was available if we needed any assistance.

When we go back, Egret’s Rest will be at the top the list of where we will stay.

Had a great Thanksgiving week at Grande Bay with our family. The beautiful two bedroom villa was perfect for our family of 5 and gave us plenty of space to spread out and not feel cramped, even on rainy days when we were stuck inside. The full kitchen and washer and dryer in the villa were a huge help when traveling with small children. Our kids loved the pool area and we enjoyed relaxing on the lounge chairs while our children swam!

Grande Bay is perfectly located in Cruz Bay with many shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. The keep rental program made it easy for us to access any beaches we wanted on the island.

Can't say enough good things about this place! We will be back!

We just got back from a week at Grande Bay Resort. We loved being able to walk right out front and down the street to everything. Lots of bars, restaurants and shops just around the corner. We stayed in an upper unit on the Penthouse Level. There is a large residential construction project directly behind the upper buildings. They are currently working on this project Monday through Saturday from around 7am until around 4pm. It is loud, but we weren't typically in the room a lot during the day. There are so many great things to do and see on St. John that you won't want to be stuck in a condo anyway.
We will be returning to St John and staying at Grande Bay Resort. We loved the location and clean units.
