“Room for a Family to Spread Out, On the Water”

We spent Christmas 2015 in this well located vacation rental. We chose this because it is on the water and had enough bedrooms to accommodate our family of 6. It is also close to the Westin, who freely allowed us inside to enjoy the "umbrella in the drink" vacation experience when we wanted it. The location was very convenient to a great grocery store, and a short drive to Cruz bay for everything else. Rent a car!

The villa's pool was a welcome place to plunge when it got too hot, and the comfortable beach lounge chairs with our own little sand beach were well utilized. Destination St. John was great to work with and picked us up and delivered us back to the ferry. The kitchen was well equipped, and was well utilized including grilled lobster and mackerel purchased from local fishermen. I would not describe the villa as super luxurious -- more of a family home, but the bed was comfortable, and it served our needs well. A few critical points which really weren't that bad but you should know: lots of biting gnats -- bring DEET! You will want to sleep with it on. That's the price you pay for being on the water -- live with it, or rent up away from the water. TV. We could only get 3 channels to work. We don't care about this kind of thing on vacation, but some people do, and nice to veg out after a long day of snorkeling and drinking rum. Stereo could use an upgrade -- couldn't get the provided jack to work with any of our devices. Music is important to us, Privacy; Neighbors are up very early and were loud. Houses are in close proximity. I'm sure we provided equal annoyance with our gaggle of 4 daughters.

All in all, this was a great place for our family to relax, decompress and spend a lovely 9 days together. It's floor plan allowed us to spread out or convene as the rhythms of family interaction dictates, great deck, beach and pool for hanging out, convenient location.

“Such an amazing house!!”
Reviewed 24 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

rom the get go, Destination St. John management was nothing but helpful. They were quick to respond to emails and provided us with everything we needed for our stay (a greeter at the ferry dock, ample beach chairs, coolers, a welcome basket with snacks, and even a 6 pack of beer!!) And any issue we had while we were there, they were quick to come and resolve it (although we didn't have many issues because the house was awesome!)

The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, plates, and utensils. There was a blender, toaster, coffee pot, dishwasher, and oven/stove. The only thing the kitchen was lacking was some containers to store left over food or plastic wrap to cover bowls. We could have gotten some plastic wrap, but we just covered our bowls in the refrigerator with plates and that worked just fine for us. There is also a laundry room behind the kitchen with a washer and dryer.

The living room and dining area were nice. There was counter seating for 2 I believe and the table sat 6. The couch was comfy and could have accommodated 8 people. We did not watch any tv but there was a flat screen. The air conditioner in the living room kept the house very cool.

The bathrooms were good as well. They weren't anything to rave about but they were clean and functional and the showers had good water pressure. The hot water tank isn't very big, however, so after 2 people showering it needs to refill.

The rooms were all very nice. very comfortable beds and the a/c units seemed brand new and could really pump out some cold air! There were also fans in the rooms. The upstairs loft was also awesome with an AMAZING view and the a/c kept it from getting too hot.

The best part of this house, however, is the outdoor area. Huge deck with grille and a pool (we didn't really use the pool, but it was nice and the sound of the waterfall very soothing). And the private little beach is AMAZING. There were 6 HUGE super comfy lounge chairs out there with an umbrella and we actually stayed there and used that little beach 2 of the days. The other days we ventured off to other beaches on the island.

The only complaint I have about the house was the bugs. The back hallway leading to the master trapped a lot of Mosquitos and there is no glass on some of the windows (only screens) so no-seeums (tiny black biting insects) were able to squeeze in the screens. So BRING BUG SPRAY! And put on pants and long sleeves after dark.
Oh, and definitely rent a car. :)

“Palace on the water!”
Reviewed 13 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We spent 7 very exciting but relaxing days on the islands and felt very fortunate to have found Viridian Garden. The layout is awesome with a master suite with a private entrance and a very comfortable bed. All rooms are air conditioned which made sleeping very nice after hot days in the sun. The living room was comfortable and the dining area was great for eating and hanging out..played a lot of cards! Then there is the best part..the back patio overlooking the ocean with tons of seating and a grill for cooking out. I cannot recommend this private and well equipped rental enough. We are definitely booking a week long stay again next year!

Viridian Gardens in St John fit our needs and some of our wants. We booked thru Destination St John and they provided a basket of food goodies on our arrival. This was very nice gesture. We really didn't use the beach at the house other than the first day. The access into the water is very rocky, not sandy and slippery. We did have some snorkelers that went out snorkeling on down the bay. We were too busy exploring all the beautiful beaches of St John. It was so nice and relaxing sitting up on the deck and seeing the sunrise/sunset or watching the boats go in and out. We had 4 couples and there was plenty of room inside and outside of the house. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor and 2 baths(side by side). The quirky bedroom up in the loft accessed by a steep spiral staircase is ok, unless you use the bathroom in the middle of the night alot. Not for me though. The kitchen was adequate with old painted cabinets and ceramic tile countertops. It did look like it had a newer backsplash. The icemaker wouldn't work at first and they came over right away to fix it. The house is an older beach cottage so it was what we expected. This is not a 4 star but it is comfortable. The large bedroom outside the main house near the pool is large and spacious. This was my bedroom and although it was nice, I didn't like being separated from the main house. The hallway and bathroom is a mosquito haven as you can see the outside gap in one of my pictures. The tv does not work on the same cable as the main house. So no channels worth speaking of. They do have wifi, which made it nice. They could use tv's in all the bedrooms with cable. They have full size laundry but in an inconvenient outside part of the house, up and down steps- also a mosquito haven. I spent one rainy day re-designing the house as some areas were awkward. We found at the local hardware store, on the backside of Starfish Market, a deet spray for the room and an all natural incense for outside in addition to my Off, that did real well at keeping these bugs at bay. I suggest if there has been any rain, to spray under bed and around room and in bathroom and hallway before leaving for the day. Beds were all comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. Ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and the dining room, except the 2nd floor. There is air plus a boxed fan upstairs, so no heat problems there and we had some hot days. Pool is small but had a nice waterfall. The house supplies paper products, dish soap and dish washer soap. The restaurant book needs updating as some of the menus were outdated as far as prices. They provide beach towels and beach chairs. We rented jeeps in St Thomas and brought them over the ferry. We went all over the island. This is a beautiful island. Explore every beach, there are so many. Trunk and Maho are my favorites. House is easy access to the roads after the steep driveway. City center is about 5 minute drive. Starfish Market is right down the main road, less than a mile. They have pretty much everything. We bought Tilipia filets there to cook one night- pretty reasonable on some things. All our other groceries we picked up in St. Thomas on the way over. There is a nice grill on the deck. Restaurants are plentiful but some are pricey. De'Coal pot was a favorite. The beaches snack bars had awful and expensive food- take a small cooler provided by the house with sandwiches and drinks. I posted some reviews of the restaurants we ate at. We loved our stay on St John and would go back.

“Perfect location, relaxing atmosphere, great experience!”

There are not enough words to describe how much we all loved this villa. My family and I stayed here the week of my wedding, which was held at Trunk Bay on St. John. The private beach is great to relax on a beach chair. Although it does not have the beach access you would expect (very rocky near the water) it was a great view. The rooms were nice and air conditioned, which was important for the morning of the wedding and getting ready! We were a group of 6 and there was plenty of room to move around comfortably. The loft bedroom is adorable, no bathroom upstairs but there are two bathrooms downstairs to accommodate everyone. The master bedroom connected by the patio area is beautiful with the large windows and private bathroom. Grilling out on the patio and watching the sunrise and sunset were some of my favorite experiences at the villa. Plenty of beach supplies, towels, and coolers. The driveway is extremely steep, but if you are on St. John you will be used to this for sure! We had a 4WD jeep which was perfect. Reserving the villa through Destination St. John was a great experience and one we would recommend for all of our friends. We had a small issue of the living room sliding door sticking and the repair man arrived promptly and fixed the issue very quickly. What a great place to vacation. We cannot wait to make the trip again!
