“Beautiful view and beautiful, well-appointed interior”
Reviewed 6 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We stayed at Carribean Jewels for a week in late January. The pickup process was smooth and our "guide" Bernard was friendly and helpful. The driving is not for the faint of heart, and access to CJ is via a stretch of dirt (mostly rocks) so I highly recommend renting a Jeep. As other guests have noted, access in and out of the driveway is narrow and steep, but you quickly get used to it.

We found our villa to be clean, beautifully and tastefully decorated. A recent reviewer (only a month earlier) complained of maintenance issues and Destination St John must have quickly done some needed repairs, as we found no holes in screens and the railings were brand new. Overall, the kitchen is well-appointed and is a pretty and fun space to cook in.

The view is spectacular. You are facing south east, so expect amazing sunrises but not sunsets. Dolphin Market is nearby and has most of what you need in terms of food, but selection is limited, produce is generally not very good, and everything (especially alcohol) is extremely expensive.

The only areas of improvement: Wifi should supply the entire villa (it's not that large) but you lose the signal even on the 2nd floor and by the pool. An extender or a more powerful router would take care of that at minimal cost. The wall (yes, the wall, not the window) in the upstairs bedroom leaked terribly during one night of rain. The window was sealed shut, but it's entering somewhere. You could see previous signs of water damage on the sill and the wall and it should be addressed immediately. The 2nd floor shower leaked due to the gap between the glass door and the bottom frame. It was more of a nuisance than anything else. The two latches on the downstairs doors stuck often so we ended up just shutting it with the top latch. Our grill's igniter was out but I was able to re-purpose a battery from a flashlight and get the grill on. The flame could not seem to get the heat above 300, but it was very windy the night of use, so that could have been the problem.

Overall we found CJ to be excellent. We would book this villa again!

“Well Equipped, Convenient, and Beautiful Villa”
Reviewed 21 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We rented Caribbean Jewels for one week at the end of April 2016. The villa is beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need. There were abundant bath and beach towels as well as beach chairs.

We found the location to be very convenient to the beaches and sites we wanted to visit. It is close to all the North Shore beaches as well as Coral Bay, The East End and Salt Pond.
Most nights we ate out at Coral Bay Restaurants which were just 10 minutes away.

The drive to the villa is right off Centerline Road; mostly cement with only a small portion of it dirt. Don't be surprised to see donkeys and deer as you approach the villa, especially in the evening.

The house has wonderful indoor and outdoor seating. The banaquets are adorable and come to the feeder frequently. The kitchen has everything you need. We stayed in the downstairs master bedroom and found the air-conditioning a welcomed addition. The bed was quite comfortable.

We have only a few complaints. The pool was not clean when we arrived and although we were told it would be cleaned in a few days, no one from the agency came by to clean it. The pool looks lovely in the photos. It is truly more of a dunking pool or a good size for small children. It is quite shallow and small and our arms hit the bottom when trying to swim.

The villa is high on a hill and has a beautiful view of Coral Bay and Beyond to the BVI. Unfortunately, you can occasionally hear the traffic from Centerline Road.

“Perfect Villa for our Family”
Reviewed 28 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

This villa exceeded our expectations in every way and was perfect for our family of 4. We had everything we needed for our weeklong stay including a cooler for the beach, beach towels, and beach chairs. The villa was clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Each of the two bedrooms had a private spacious bathroom and direct access to the outdoors. There is a spiral staircase that leads to the second floor bedroom, it was not a problem for us since our children are older but it may be an issue for young children or for older adults with mobility issues. The most amazing part is the view and the outdoor areas with the pool and porches.

The location is quiet and a short drive to Coral Bay and the North Shore Beaches. You definitely need to rent a Jeep and the roads are a combination of narrow paved roads and a dirt road to reach the villa. We enjoyed the location and preferred to be in a quieter area of the island.

The property management company was great. We were met at the Ferry Dock by Eric who loaded our luggage into his car and drove us to pick up our Jeep rental. He gave us great tips about the island and escorted us to the Villa. He even offered to wait while we picked up a few groceries on our way. We discovered the grill was out of gas on Sunday, I called Monday morning and a new tank was delivered to the villa before we arrived home that afternoon.
I would definitely rent this villa again.

“Beautiful and Relaxing. Great location for quiet times”
Reviewed 20 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We thought the villa was beautiful and set up nicely. It was high in the hills so our view of coral bay, the caribean and sunrise were spectacular. If we were to name a view negatives it would only be that the maid service before arrival could do a little better on the floors. Some of the dishes in the cupboard were not the cleanest. Not sure if it had been a bit before there were previous guests which would maybe account for hair and debris on floor. A quick broom took care of it and we were happy.
The lady that lives above the resort, does need to relax. One night around 7:30 (so early), we jumped in the pool and yelped a little and then laughed. She immediately hollered down to be quiet. I feel she could tolerate one minutes worth of noise and maybe get upset if it went on for an hour or more. When you pay that much for a villa with a pool it would be nice to be able to laugh a little. Other than that I think the place is wonderful and Eric who took us there was absolutely great. Let us stop at the grocery store before heading up to the villa. ( about a 20 min drive from grocery store). We had arrived around 6:45 pm, so it was nice to get some groceries and then head "home."

“Great place with wonderful view of Coral Bay.”
Reviewed 21 December 2013 for a stay in December 2013

My wife and I traveled to St. John in December 2013. I had researched several villas, but, based upon the view, I chose Caribbean Jewels. The rental company was very responsive and helpful prior to the trip. They offered to stock the villa prior to arrival; however, we did not use that service. It really was no problem to shop for groceries at Cruz Bay; however, we really appreciated the specialty food gift left in the villa for our arrival.
To begin, the villa is really spacious - it would be best for 4-5 individuals since the sofa in the living room would fold out. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The view from the lanai was absolutely breathtaking, especially with sunrise and with incoming rain. Water pressure was good and conservation is recommended, but, the villa does have a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Since previous reviews, some improvements must have been made because it seemed to be in appropriate shape. Sure, there were signs of aging on the outside; however, it resides on the side of a mountain overlooking Coral Bay.
We were happily surprised by its proximity to the north shore beaches. It is extremely close to Maho Bay, Watermelon Bay, and Annaberg ruins. It is also very convenient to East End and Salt Pond. We found North Shore road to be an easier (and much more scenic) route to Cruz Bay than Centerline Road. The pool area was clean and the pool was nice. I can imagine that it would be really nice for kids following a morning at the beach or hiking and during a hot summer.
There were a few "obstacles". First, I would not arrange the car through the rental service (Cool Breeze). Although we booked 6 weeks in advance, our car was not ready and we never received the one we requested. It was obviously "well used" with very worn tires that made travel down the road to the villa an extra challenge. Next time, I will probably use O'Connor Jeep rental - their vehicles appeared very well maintained. Second, the road to the villa is a bit of a challenge; however, with your jeep it is not a problem and you will be rewarded with the great view and location. Third, the phones were completely out during our stay, so, make sure that you take a cell phone, preferably with AT&T since that is the company that really services the island. We had phone service and sometimes 4G or LTE even on beaches. That being said, make sure roaming is off because in some places you will be up the BVI service (international roaming). Fourth, probably because the phones were out, the satellite TV service only worked in the living room. However, did you really did not go to a beautiful Caribbean island to watch TV? Internet is good but not optimal for video.
Overall, I readily recommend this location and I would return.
