Owner description: Provo Ponies is a small riding stable located on the southeast end of the island of Providenciales. We do two guided rides a day, morning ride at 9:30am and an afternoon ride at 3:30pm during winter hours, 4:30 during the summer. We can take all experience levels from 7 years old and up (if they are younger they must be experienced riders). There is an extra charge if someone must be led. Everyone rides their own horse or pony, no double riding. We have a 250 pound weight limit. Groups are never more than 12 riders. Private rides are available for an additional fee. Helmets are available and are required for children 17 and under. We ride along quiet dirt roads and trails to Long Bay Beach, a 4 mile long beach. We do our best not to do nose to tail type rides, and more experienced riders are given the chance to trot or canter along the beach depending on the tides. The shallow waters of the Caicos Banks off Long Bay make it an ideal place to take your horse into the ocean. You can book a one hour ride or a 90 minute ride. We can arrange for transportation to and from your hotel.Reservations are required. A Visa or Mastercard number is required for all reservations, as well as weights and experience levels of all riders in your group so that we can properly assign horses to riders. We are a fully insured and licensed business in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Whether you have never sat on a horse or are an experienced rider a trip on the beach and in the sea is a must. The guides at Provo Ponies are friendly, helpful and caring, and so are the horses; they respond to your level of experience. To ride on the white sand and in the warm, clear blue water is something you might dream of and my dream came true. I rode three times; each ride was different depending on the other rider's level of expertise. The atmosphere at the stables is very relaxed and the short riding lesson on how to turn left or right and stop gives beginners confidence to go off and enjoy themselves. People wore shorts or trousers; no one came back sore. Trainers are the best footwear. Head gear is available. Give it a go, you won't regret it.

We took the opportunity to go horseback riding at Provo Ponies while visiting T&C and absolutely loved it. We had a blast! I would strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys horseback riding and the ocean. The horses are all beautiful and evidently well taken care of and the staff is very knowledgeable and safety is their main priority... and having fun of course.

We JUST got back from our 90 minute ride with the Provo Ponies, and it couldn't have been a more fun and relaxing experience.

We booked online in advance, pulled in and waited for the remaining riders to flow in. Once everyone arrived, the instructor gathered us around, told us all a little about the horses and what to expect, and then asked everyone their riding experience. BE SURE TO TELL THEM ANY AND ALL EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE RIDING HORSES. Not to try to worry you, but they want to match you with the best possible horse, and they did an excellent job matching everyone.

I was paired with Romeo and my wife got Spirit. You mount your horse, and they give you basic (BUT VERY INFORMATIVE) instructions on steering, stopping, and moving your horse. Once everyone is mounted, you ride off out of the stable down a good stretch of back road to the beach.

Once on the beach, you're allowed to have some free reign with your horse. A lot of them enjoy walking in a single file line. Getting them into the water can be a little bit of a hassle, but once 1 horse sees their buddy in the water, the rest will follow with some coaxing. And the guides will gladly take pictures for everyone along the way. This was worth every penny!

It was what I thought it would be, just not what they said it would be. Provo insisted that this was just not another 'trail ride' where everyone just follows along on auto-pilot. Partially true, as we did ride in the water, very neat. However, it indeed was a 90 minute auto-pilot ride. There was no opportunity to canter as is suggested on their website. You did get a chance to see spectacular beach sights, but truthfully, you get that all over this wonderful island. You don't need to spend $100 to ride a horse to do it. All in all, not bad. Just don't expect anything too different from other trail ride establishments.

We would like to apologize to you if our ride did not meet your expectations. It clearly states on our website that we do not allow more than a walk at high tide as cantering in the deep sand can cause serious injuries to the horses. Unfortunately, you booked your ride at high tide. We also explain in our safety briefing before the ride that the more advanced gaits are reserved for more advanced riders. As for the auto-pilot ride; thankfully some of the horses go on auto-pilot in order to look after nervous, less experienced riders. If however, a rider asks their horse to do more, they listen. Nose to tail type riding is not what we require but the horses will fall into line if they are not asked to do otherwise. On your ride, I remember spending the majority of the beach portion, riding in the water because it was high tide. On the trail back we trotted a fair amount when the terrain permitted it. As for the 100$ fee. All of our feed products and equipment are imported from Canada and the US. By the time these products are shipped and duties are paid, their cost is 4 times greater than the original North American prices. Our hay, for example costs 8$ a bale initially, but once it's landed, it costs 25$ a bale. We have not raised our ride prices in 5 years. In Feb of this year we had to add a fee for transportation to and from guests hotels due to the increase in taxi costs. We have tried to keep our prices as low as we can. I hope this clarifies things for you a bit. And again, I am sorry if your ride did not meet your expectations. Regards. Your trail guide Kelly.
