It is a simple one bedroom apartment with one bathroom and kitchen. My sister slept on the futon/sofa. They had a/c. It was pretty clean. The staff were friendly and did a great job keeping the place clean. One day they actually washed our dirty dishes which we didn't expect. It is close to the beach, the Elm, and Tony's. There is a store down the beach. If you want a true relaxing vacation you do not need much more!

We stayed in the Sugar Apple room (2nd floor), and it was clean, had an excellent air conditioner (!), and was just what we needed for our stay. I took a few photos of the room, as well as Cane Garden Bay, where Elm Beach Suites is located. The location was perfect because the water in the bay was calm and therefore good for swimming and water sports. There were restaurants and bars literally right next to each other. We took a tour around the island one day, and then went to Jost Van Dyke another day via a charter, but other than that, we hung around Cane Garden Bay, and enjoyed the laid-back ambiance.

Elm Beach Suites has a BBQ on Friday and Sunday, and we enjoyed that. We also ate at Myett's, and the lobster and cracked conch were OUTSTANDING! We had drinks at all the bars, and decided that Tony's 'painkiller' drink was the best! For local-type cuisine, the best was at Rhymer's and Paradise Club.

We will definitely return to Tortola in the future!

The best thing about The Elms is the simplicity. The lodgings are basic and very clean. And just feet from the beach in Cane Garden Bay. The staff are wonderfully welcoming and helpful. The food at the restaurant is fresh and wonderful. This is not for, those who want shiny marble and uniformed staff, but for us it was simply perfect!

I have returned to this small, 7 room hotel for the 14th year in a row. I love staying there. There is no pool and no frills. But, it is right on the beach and run by wonderful people. If you want a 5 star hotel, this is not the place or island for you. But, if you want a wonderful time with wonderful people without the many extras of a resort, this is a great -place for you.

Room Tip: Upstairs costs a little more, but the view and balcony is definitely worth the extra money.

We stayed in the Tamarind room, on the first level, due to our issues with stairs. It was quite large, with a decent sized bedroom, kitchenette, and living room. Most of our time was spent on the porch, which had a ringside seat to the nightly "Happy Table" gathering. Think BVI's version of the Algonquin Round Table. The staff at the Hotel and Bar are very friendly and the food and service were great. On Friday and Sunday nights the Bar serves a Beach BBQ (Chicken, Ribs & Fish) which should not be missed. It is paired with live music from the Bar's manager, Steve, and a few of his friends. The music is a combination of Rock, Blues, and Reggae. The beach is what you came for, and it doesn't disappoint. Except for "Cruise Ship" day, when the beach is overrun with tourists, it is still, in 2014, very quiet, with maybe 10-15 people walking or swimming on the entire beach. The only negatives would be the built-in 6 AM wake-up alarm (rooster), and the need for an upgrade on the bed linens and curtains. If it wasn't so hard to get down to, from the US, we would spend a lot more time their.
