“Great location + everything is new, comforts of home”

Apartment is private, has all new appliances, including washer and dryer and dish washer. Hot water is freely available (not always true on every island we've stayed at), little things are provided like laundry detergent, dish washing detergent, hand soap, paper towels, beach towels, and more. Mark or Rashi are always available in the house behind the stand-alone apartment to provide info or anything you need. WiFi worked great in the apartment; we used our laptop to find vendors, send e:mails to arrange reservations for tours, etc.

The location is extremely good, right near the airport, Simpson beach (which is always empty) has great sand, beautiful ocean color, no riptides, jellyfish, etc. We rented a car for our 10 days to drive where/when we wanted. There was always a very close parking spot either in front of the building of a couple of parking spots away.

Security was no problem of any kind. we felt safe everywhere we went. We always followed the rule to leave nothing in the car and other than overnight, mostly left it unlocked, to prevent anyone from breaking the glass to see if we left anything in the car. We had no issues with the rental car or returning it.

The apartment is VERY near the runway and you definitely get lots of plane landings and takeoffs, from about 8am to 8pm. The airport closes at 10pm, I was told. You get used to the sound and for us, it was no issue at all. We were not at the apartment most of every day anyway, since we were out enjoying everything St Maarten has to offer. We went to Maho beach to photograph the huge airliners landing, right over the people's heads on the beach.

Atlantico Café was our favorite breakfast place, when we ate out for breakfast. They are French, but only a couple of blocks from the apartment. They served great omelettes, crepes and French pastries, quiche, etc. I would highly recommend going there several times, if you're a breakfast person like me.

We took the Edge II catamaran (non-sailing) to Saba for one day. also took Paasat sunset cruise. And did catamaran tour to Prickly Pear Island, just north of Anquilla, lunch provided, on Bluebeard cat. Plus a snorkel tour to crowl rock and a quick ferry over to Il Pintel for 1/2 day of exploring. We hiked at the Loterie Farm a fair amount. If you enjoy hiking in the rain forest, that was enjoyable. I recommend each of these vendors and excursions, if you have time on St Maarten. We enjoyed all of them.

The sea around St Maarten and some of these sails can be VERY wild, with BIG waves and a great deal of boat roll, even on a boat as large as the Edge II. We had read about this ahead of time, took non-drowsy Dramamine, and made it through the 90 minute one-way trip with no sickness, as was true for all the guests we saw. The cat trip to Prickly Pear was also quite wavy, but Dramamine worked well for me, while my wife and daughter needed none for any of the trips. Paasat was much calmer, staying closer to the Island.

Oh, I almost forgot the Rhino individual (well, 2 to a boat) tour. You pilot your own little boat, built like a jet-ski, but with a 30hp outboard motor on the back, to Crowl Rock and snorkel there. That was great fun and highly recommended. We rented 2 of them to hold the 3 of us. You travel as a group in a line from Simpson Bay up to northwest St Martin, stop, snorkel, then come back down.

All of these vendors are a very short drive to get to their departure point from the apartment, again, making the location ideal for us. Even our rental car place was just a couple of blocks from the apartment. We used Unity, which had good rates and very good service and no hassles returning the car, as I've read about with some car rental vendors on St. Maarten.

We mostly ate in the apartment, since it has a full set of full-sized appliances and a huge fridge, but we also ate out several times. Nothing fancy for us, just a simple meal out at various places. There are lots of eating establishments along the main road just East of the apartment, on Airport road or also called Welfare Road. We walked to the right on the beach near the apartment and ate at Mary's one lunch.

Traffic is often a bit slow here and there around St Maarten, but it's just something you deal with. Expect it though. Watch out for the scooters splitting lanes on your right. They seem to come out of nowhere, when you least expect them.

“Good choice for a quiet peaceful holiday with all the comforts of home.”

This private residence is located in a quiet residential area with a wonderful host. It has everything you need and is centrally located close to a large grocery store and several eating places and an easy walk to the beach. The little extras like lint brushes, extra large beach towels and chairs and ice maker are much appreciated. The only negative is the bed is very high and as I have limited mobility I ended up sleeping on the futon. Home away from home.
