“fun in the sun”
Reviewed 29 July 2015 for a stay in January 2015

we have been traveling to vieques for 9 years this is a great place. the owners of the property made sure everything went smooth in the booking process. we stayed 2 weeks and joey the 2 times we needed him for small items was there in a flash to help. it is close enough but far enough so you don't hear the late nite life. will stay again.

“Great Location, Great Price, Very Comfortable”

Casa Anolis is not a fancy place, but if you're looking for fancy, you're probably not in Vieques (or you're staying at the W). What it is, is a fairly clean, fairly comfortable, well-located place for a great price.

Pros:
--Location. The house is in Esperanza, a short walk from the Malecon but far enough to avoid the trucks blasting music and advertisements. It's on a side street with parking available on the street. You get the occasional stray dog, like everywhere in Vieques, but none of them bothered us.

--The house. Three small but fairly comfy rooms, nice common area with a pretty decent kitchen (toaster oven only but plenty of fridge and stove room, we cooked several meals with no problems) and plenty of seating, a deck and small yard (complete with outdoor shower to wash off the beach sand before we went inside), and a large bathroom featuring a nice shower that constantly had hot water. The washer and dryer also came in handy; not super new but they worked just fine. A/C in the rooms worked great, and the airflow and fans in the common room kept it nice and cool, especially in the evenings.

--The price. At $150/night, split between two couples, it worked out to under $40/person every night, and if we'd had a third couple (there are three rooms) it would have been $25/person. That's as cheap or cheaper than any of the accommodations in Esperanza I saw except the hostel's dorm beds. Great value for what you get.

Cons:
--Bit of an ant problem. The ants are too small to be kept out by the screens over the windows, so they got in. Mostly in the bathroom, occasionally in the other rooms. Not really a big deal--we didn't leave out any food and they're not big enough to cause any real problem--but some additional spraying might help. We did see one roach as well, but let's be real--this is the tropics, you're going to get a roach or two, and it definitely did not appear to be any kind of infestation, just one unlucky bug. Happily, the screens do a good job of keeping out mosquitos.

--Since we were two couples, it would have been nice to have another room with a double bed instead of two twins. Pushing them together worked okay but a real bed would have been nice. This would be good for a family group or several friends, though.

As you can see, these are very minor quibbles. Overall, the house was clean, comfortable, well-located, and one of the best deals around. I'd gladly stay here again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate feedback as we like to hear the positive and need to know the negative. We immediately contacted our property manger about the issue with less than 5 star cleanliness and he has taken care of it and will monitor more closely in the future. During the high season the turnaround time for departures and new arrivals can be very short but that is no excuse for cutting corners. The ants are a never ending battle but it has to be fought. Thank for letting us know they are coming in through the bathroom window. Please stay with us again when you return to Vieques. Regards,
Suzanne Krause

Casa Anolis was clean and comfortable and it had all the amenities we needed. Joey, the manager, was very helpful. The location of the house (near the Malecon) was great. Highly recommended!

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?

“Great for your stay in Esperanza”

Welcoming house with ample amenities. It was great to be met by Joey who showed us around the town. Plenty of the things you need available; beach towels, kitchen utensils, portable umbrella for the beach, washing machine. Next stay I will pack less!

I loved being in a neighborhood not far from "downtown". The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was I found the noise in the neighborhood a bit much at night. We stayed in April and didn't need A/C at night, just kept the windows open. The neighborhood dogs barked whenever someone walked along the street, and the neighbor was trying to fix his jetski engine one evening. If you are a light sleeper, it may be helpful to have ear plugs handy.

The house was awesome and even with that inconvenience I'd highly recommend it. Hope I can make it over again.

Thank you for writing a review. We appreciate your taking the time to say such nice things about Casa Anolis. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Barking dogs, tree frogs and roosters come with the territory. It doesn't seem to matter where you are on the island.
Hope you make it back and stay with us again.
