We visited La Finca with our children (ages 10 and 14). We chose La Finca because we wanted to immerse ourselves in the local island culture and surround ourselves with the natural beauty of Vieques. We found both at La Finca . . . and (to the dismay of our children) much more! We rented Casa Nueva. It's a spacious two-story house with plenty of room for 6-8 guests. It is clean and charming in a bohemian way. It has two indoor toilets and two outdoor showers. It has a spacious kitchen and a wrap-around deck with views of the entire property. The furniture was comfortable and the property managers were very kind and welcoming. Having said that, it is important to understand that the screens on the doors and windows do not keep nature out of the house. Salamanders, geckos and mice come and go as they please. At night, one little guy perched atop the mosquito netting around our bed and kept a watchful eye on us all night long. Our children didn't mind the lizards, but they were less excited about the palmetto bugs that invaded our house and the tarantula that decided to shower with our son. Please know that none of these critters posed any real threat to us. In fact, we left Vieques with fewer than five mosquito bites between the four of us (and for that we probably owe a debt of thanks to the salamanders). It's just important to know what you are signing up for. Our family enjoys camping and hiking and most adventure sports, but our kids were unable to sleep at La Finca because they were fearful of what "might be" crawling nearby. (Meanwhile, my husband slept soundly on the comfy platform bed in the room off the kitchen!) La Finca is centrally located and easy-to-find from the airport. It really is an ECO-resort.

Thanks for the kind words, and for dealing with what sounds like even your fair share of our local critters! Like the tarantula in the shower! Luckily that is very very rare -- in fact you might be a first! I'm sorry about that! It's a tough decision in the tropics-- to have any house completely free of them requires not just poison, but nearly continuous use of it, and we're not willing to do that. Instead we try to keep things as clean and tidy as possible to help as much as we can, and be very clear on our website. I'm glad you didn't get mosquito bites (the lizards help with that) and that you enjoyed your stay!

My fiance and I just got back from a quick trip to Vieques and stay at La Finca. We cannot say enough good things - La Finca is like a tropical lake house, filled with kind people, amazing views, and good vibes. While it is very low-key and simple, the rooms are very clean, everything you could want is there, and the entire place is filled with unique decor and details. Bill and Scott are incredibly kind, fun, and excited to help with beach recommendations, restaurants, and anything else you could possibly ask. They make you feel at home! As someone who is not used to shared spaces and b&bs, I was pleasantly surprised how easy and comfortable it was. We met incredibly nice, interesting people. It's as if La Finca draws the coolest people from all over to it's expansive deck. We cannot wait to come back with our families for our wedding in August!!!

Room tip: We stayed in room 6 and loved the cross breeze from both windows

The rustic charm of La Finca, the beautiful setting and the warmth of the innkeepers will send you immediately into vacation mode. We loved every minute of our stay. Made friends with all the other guests --even had a dinner party together. The funky spirit of the place is not for everyone, but if you look through the pictures and they resonate you will absolutely love it. We did!

If you adore the idea of staying in a charming , welcoming ,low key, small scale resort, on top of a hill in the Caribbean with garden and hammocks and like minded people, then La Finca is for you. Owners Corky and Bill are sustaining a magical oasis. Hosts Bill and Scott are delightful and attentive. They go out of their way to help guests when tires go flat or a ride is needed. And they offer fun conversation and great information about reasonable and delicious local restaurants and beaches. We have visited 4 times over the last 20 years and it only gets better. Last two times, we were in the "cabinita" and loved eating on the porch and looking out at the garden and trees and hearing the occasional bleat of goats and birds chittering away during the day. and of course a cocqui or two at night. Now even a separate bedroom . We would love to bring some or all our kids and grandkids there some time to stay in the larger houses and/or do a workshop. A gem for those of us who want a getaway that is welcoming, quiet, ecofriendly, charming, and easygoing. Did I mention great hot water outdoor showers and solar panels. One important note-you do need a car, or scooter, or golf cart to get to beaches- but all so worth it.

Room tip: wifi available in main lodge in public spaces.

La Finca is one of the most beautiful QUIET spots on the island. The open air living is so pleasant with the trade winds always blowing through. Managers Scott and Bill are the nicest guys ever and oh so helpful every step of the way. Our stay at la Finca was part business and part pleasure. What a perfect place to hold a class and then relax afterward!
