An ancient building, part of the history of Ponce. This is the Plus. The Cons are unfortunately many: the wifi does not work, rooms are dark and old fashioned (the mattress was so fluffy I could not move unless I would wake up my boyfriend, the shower was very poor, no wardrobe); no space dedicated to breakfast ( they arranged some small chairs and sofas in the corridor of the main entrance (!!). Poor breakfast, only high calories carbos: packed cookies/ cakes, ham and cheese, bread. No fruits, no yogurt, no juices. Unbelievable for the price.

The hotel is lovely, right on the corner of the Plaza de las Delicias, close to everything, and on a lovely city. The rooms are not that big but you have to note that it is an old building. Yet the hotel has been renewed and has many beautiful touches such as a book exchange shelf and a computer for internet access if you don't have your own device. The breakfast is a good start of the day.
In regards to complaints about noise we read on other reviews, there are pubs across the street and it was noisy in the streets in the evening. We were on an inner room so had to issues sleeping, but we can see that, as nice as it would be to have a balcony, street facing rooms may be noisier.

Room tip: Street facing rooms may be noisy.

Very well located if somewhat noisy property with a slightly overly relaxed management. The amenities are pretty basic and the building has all the advantages and issues of an old property.
Water started dripping from the ceiling around 1.30am (during a particularly strong rainfall). When informed in the morning, the front desk did not seem to care about this issue. Power cuts are to be expected and the generator does not supply the entire building meaning that you may have to do without.
Note that there are stairs without a lift which may be an issue for families or people with disabilities.
Despite these little quirks, this remains a great value for money hotel in a good location

Room tip: ask for a room away from the street

Staying at the Hotel Belgica makes you feel as though the clock has been turned back over a hundred years. It is quite old but very well maintained. It is also spotless. The cleaning crew (Daisy in particular) takes great pride in making sure that everything is orderly, well-stocked, and exceptionally clean.

I stayed in Ponce for 8 days and used it as a base to explore southern Puerto Rico. The front desk staff was consistently helpful. They made suggestions and occasionally also made phone calls on my behalf to ensure that my trip went well.

The air conditioning worked well, I had no trouble at all with the Internet connection, and the location is a half-block from the old central cathedral. It's right across the street from the taxi stand. Hotel Belgica is not a super-fancy, amenities-laden hotel. Rather, it is a well-run, historic hotel staffed by people who genuinely care about sharing their city and culture with their guests. All of the staff (Jesus, Luz and Gladys) went way out of their way to make sure that I enjoyed my stay in Puerto Rico.

I read the TripAdvisor reviews prior to choosing this hotel. Various reviewers mentioned the noise issue on the weekends from the surrounding neighbors. So I went prepared with earplugs and also turned the air conditioning fan up a bit before retiring -- and I had no problems at all with noise. Other reviewers mentioned the humble breakfasts, so I aligned my expectations accordingly. The hotel isn't equipped with a dining room, breakfast is served in the central hall on small tables. It's a continental breakfast, including a few sweets, or peanut butter, cheese, ham and toast. It's all served with orange juice and great Puerto Rican coffee. It's not a full, hot breakfast, but it does the job.

In sum, I enjoyed my stay and would certainly go back if I were in the area.

Hotel Belgica is a vintage hotel with a great location in downtown Ponce. Close to city center square and many restaurants. Rooms have been updated and are reasonably spacious. Hotel and room furnishings are vintage and interesting. Prices are reasonable.
