We were so excited to try Jibarito after all the great reviews. The restaurant is tiny but very cute and authentic. We ordered a pitcher of rum punch (which was enough for the 3 of us to have several glasses) it was really good!! For appetizer we ordered the alcapurrias, pastellitos, and bolitas de queso. All were phenomenal but the alcapurrias were my absolute favorite. We all ordered the Trifongo which was unlike any mofongo we had on our trip. It was much more fried but it was delicious! I recommend ordering it with one of the main dishes or a side of rice. This restaurant was definitely a place to go back to if we had the time. I would definitely recommend.

This restaurant is virtually in every search as a must-go place. Time for a reality check. Yes food is Puerto Rican. Yes it is relatively inexpensive. Yes its been around since 1977. Yes it’s Puerto Rican. Yes it is family run and relatively inexpensive. But, and that’s a Big But that may have been long ago: mediocre Puerto Rican food served in a canteen-like setting by surly waitresses who act like they have either been there since 1977 and can’t be bothered. Service is slow, to top it all of, having to wait 20 minutes for a few empanaditas and mealy cheese balls, and nearly as long for the mains. So,avoid it if you can, go if u must, but either way go with very low expectations and you might not be disappointed. The only thing is that is more upsetting is, if you’re on in San Juan for a only few days, it’s sinful to waste a meal on this restaurant when there are so many others to chose from.

Went there with high expectations because of the mostly great reviews (on TripAdvisor, too). Service was average on the unfriendly side, food was at best like in a cheap food court. Really nothing special, value for money below average. No locals there, only tourists, so we were treated like "come once and never again". We were disappointed, especially because of the otherwise really good restaurant experiences we made in San Juan.
Five shrimps with mashed plantains ("trifongo") for 17$... Sorry, but never again.

Recommended by our cab driver. Very near our Old Town hotel. Not crowded, good service, and excellent food that is authentic.

I would probably give 3 and a half stars. Food was good but I found the menu a little Limiting with few vegetarian options. I had the whole snapper which was well prepared and tasty. Nothing fancy but a solid meal
