The forts (this one and El Morro, which can be visited on a combined ticket) are very easy tourist packages. There is no need to do a group tour, just go on your own. Rangers lead free talks in English and Spanish a couple of times a day, there's a video explaining the history, the fort is huge, and there are well-signed exhibits in English and Spanish. Also, exceptionally clean bathrooms!

A great historic site. Spent a lot of time here. Beautiful views of the city from here and of El Morro. Highly recommend going here if you go to San Juan!

San Cristobal is an impressive structure that took hundreds of year to build. We took the guided tour of the tunnels and the fort made a lot more sense to us. So much thought and planning went into it's design and construction. It was educational and interest.
