The guest house was much farther from Port Antonio than we were led to believe. On arrival, we found that we did not have the three bedroom house we rented, but only two bedrooms, and an offer from our bumbling, incompetent host that he'd put one of our friends in a room in his home next door. After a 45 minute argument, the guest in the third bedroom in the rental house quit the premises in a huff, and we had the three bedrooms originally rented. Our host Linton then guided the four of us to a beach at the bottom of a hill, but suggested we take a short cut that was steep, muddy and an obstacle course of tree roots and jagged rocks. We descended, but soaked to the bone in sweat. Linton's 'advice' on the subject of a descent local restaurant for dinner took us on a wild goose chase to two of the worst eateries in Jamaica. His third suggestion, the hotel at the famous Blue Lagoon, we discovered on the next morning had been closed more than ten years earlier. We were pretty groggy in the morning because it was nearly impossible to sleep thanks to the constant racket coming from several roosters, a bunch of barking dogs, a forest of crickets, and a deranged preacher man who chanted at length. The house has no hot water and no air conditioning. Our host insisted 'there is no need for these things', and that it had never been an issue with guests. Although we planned to stay for two nights, the thought of a second night was intolerable, so we sacrificed half of the money already spent and got the hell out of Dodge, I mean Portland.
i called the owner up on very very shot notice, i was in Portland and need a place to stay for the night. Alecia was so accommodating. She helped me out BIG time and made me feel very welcome.... i felt very comfortable and relaxed here. felt like home. this was my second time staying here. I wouldn't stay any where else.....i loved the experience. The place is clean and very big. Free wifi! the beach is very near... 10/10 high recommended... book confidently and enjoy......

We loved our holiday in Portland Jamaica. The friendly people, the beautiful surroundings & hot sun. Fairy Hill Palms is just lovely! It's clean, spacious and well equipped. However I would recommend air conditioning or stronger fans in the bedrooms as night times got very hot & humid!
The house is a short rocky walk (do not attempt in flip flops) away from the most spectacular beach Winifred Beach. It gets busy at weekends and the locals are very friendly offering drinks and delicious food to purchase.
We also enjoyed Port Antonio which is a short drive away. A busy up & coming town with lively entertainment good places to eat & chill. We enjoyed the sports bar and Anna Banana restaurant.
Overall a fantastic holiday good value for money. Only downside was we didn't have wifi on the last night & the water was turned off an hour before we checked out.
My family & I enjoyed our stay & would highly recommend Fairy Hill Palms. We hope to be back again soon. Huge thanks to Linton & Alecia for being so helpful and accommodating.
We are missing Jamaica already!
