We just returned from a six night vacation with another family and we all agreed that The Reserve is simply amazing. All reviews are consistent about the beauty of the property. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was very large and well appointed with high end finishes. We had a third floor room which was perfect for us. The balcony was private and we used the outdoor jacuzzi as the palm trees swayed overhead. The bath towels were huge and the linens crisp and very clean, (pet peeve of mine).

The property is at the back of the Palma Real Resort and is an easy stroll to the beach, however you can always get a golf cart if mobility is an issue. The grounds are well manicured and beautiful. However during our stay the best part was the people - by far! I never look forward to check in and waiting in line - however at the Reserve you are seated in a lounge area and provided cold towels, drinks and introduced to a concierge who will take care of all your restaurant reservations. Dalliance was our concierge and he did a good job with our requests. My son has a peanut allergy and we were provided with cards to take with us to each restaurant. The servers were very reassuring once they saw the card - you could tell they were trained for many issues like this.

At the reserve we were greeted by Alexandre each morning with a warm hello and hot coffee. In the evening we had drinks at the H2O bar served by Ronni who was amazing at anticipating our needs. The quality of drinks is very high. I liked the Corona beer and my wife enjoyed a variety of expertly made cocktails. Gustavo at the Hydra Grill was so warm and friendly - ready to do anything to make your stay the best. Christian was everywhere and helped us with our Spanish which my kids really enjoyed. A special thank you to Pedro Paulino who arranged to have a cake delivered for one of our kids who was celebrating her 13th birthday and then joined us in singing happy birthday.

The food was the best of any all inclusive resort we have been to. We went to Passion and I highly recommend it if you like gourmet food and presentation (there is an additional cost of $40 per person and is for adults only). I loved the lobster at the Gabi on the beach. Our server Frandi, kept our group in stitches the entire night. Our only miss was the teppanyaki restaurant at Palma Real - the food was way too salty. The buffets were excellent, fresh and well attended by staff.

There was loads for us to do. We took advantage of the Hobie Cat sail boats, tennis (racquet rental was $5 for two which was worth it for the good quality equipment), and we played volleyball almost every day which was a great way to meet other vacationers. A huge thank you to Joangel who organized the volleyball and to Mr. E who made our kids feel like rock stars. Our wives went to the spa for a 75 minute massage which they raved about. The spa folks also roam the pool for a complimentary five minute massage as well.

I normally skip the evening shows as they are often amateurish at other resorts, however we were all pleasantly surprised by the shows at the Palma Real. The Michael Jackson show was good as well as the break dancing display. Afterwards we would normally end up at the lounge bar at the Palma Real and enjoy drinks made by Orny (sp?) who worked so hard each night we were there. He was wonderful!

So overall we had an amazing time because each person we encountered went out of their way to make us feel comfortable - we will be back.

Room Tip: Third floor is very private but stairs may be an issue for some.

We are very pleased with our stay in this resort. The upgrade was a bit of a hassel and the dominicans can be very slow, but overall we appreciated the attention and friendliness of the staff.

Considering we are in Punta Cana, there is a very good value for your money....all-inclusive with top beers, wines, cocktails, etc.

My husband and I went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon this October 2012. We stayed at Paradisus Palma Real and had dinner at "Agua" at The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real on our final night. Our waiter DAVID MENDOZA was phenomenal. He was very attentive, polite, and engaged throughout our dining experience. He truly made our last night on the island a memorable one. We plan to go back on our anniversary and hope to see him and the rest of the staff again.

We cannot say enough good things about the service at Paradisus Palma Real and The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real. Even our experience at the YHI SPA was unforgettable. The staff was caring and appreciative. If you are looking for EXCELLENT SERVICE then look no further than Paradisus Palma Real and The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real.

We have been travelling for years and this was by far the best service we have ever had.

Whilst on a recent 21 night multi-resort trip to Punta Cana we had a tour of Paradisus Palma Real & The Reserve as research for another trip to the island

This was our 30th trip to the Caribbean and our 11th trip to Dominican Republic. We have stayed in the North of the island twice and this was our 9th trip to the South having stayed at numerous top end resorts such as Excellence, Zoetry, Sanctuary Cap Cana, etc so we like to think that we have a fairly good well calibrated holiday measuring stick

Having stayed at other Sol Melia properties in the past we thought we would take the opportunity to check Palma Real & The Reserve out whilst we were in the area as we have already visited their two new properties in Mexico at Playa del Carmen this summer and have booked to spend some nights at Paradisus La Perla in June 2013

I will be perfectly honest upfront as usual and say we did not purchase a day pass for our time at the resort - the purpose of the day out was twofold:

to see if we would like to stay at The Reserve on future trips to Punta Cana

to increase my knowledge of the resorts in the area which will assist me in answering questions on TripAdvisor and Facebook and enable me to make comparisons with other similar resorts

Being given free access and the additional bonus of a courtesy room on the day in The Royal Service area at Palma Real in no way prejudices my opinions and as normal I remain unbiased in this mini review and all further writings about the property. Resorts are fully aware of this and respect me for being unbiased as they are fully aware that no resort is perfect or ideal for all guests

I must say we were very impressed by The Reserve and were rather amazed to hear about their very low occupancy at the moment. The Reserve which has 190 luxury Residential Concierge Suites sit about 10 minutes walk away from the beach. If you wish you can arrange to be taken up and down to the beach of the main resort by golf cart and this takes just a few minutes

Their main building which houses the check in and out area, lounge, etc is very peaceful indeed and has a great water feature as you enter which adds to the coolness and tranquillity. I can just imagine arriving there and feeling instantly very comfortable that you had booked the right resort as it has a certain upmarket air about it

We were shown around two suites at The Reserve – One Bedroom Swim Up Suite & a One Bedroom Master Swim Up Suite. As you will see from my photos both are very well equipped and thoughtfully laid out with a whirlpool bath for two on their patio. One thing we particularly liked was how far back these suites sit back from the pool itself which gives them a very private feel unlike many other swim up suites we have seen. You also have more than adequate private area to sit, lounge or sunbathe – even including your own large thatch palapa

We just loved all the emphasis which had been made to make the children feel special with their own bathroom amenities, bathrobes and slippers. The mini bar also had drinks and snacks aimed at children. For a full list of all the additional features available I suggest you check out their website as there are way too many to list in this review

The resort itself has three a la carte restaurants – Aqua [Mediterranean], Mizu [Teppanyaki & Asian] as well as the Gabi Club which is a chill out club, bar and restaurant. There is also the Hydrogrill which is a poolside snack grill– guests also have access to the restaurants at the main resort Paradisus Palma Real

There are three bars – H2O, Gabi & Hydrogrill. Again guests have access to all the bars at Palma Real

The resort has three pools – main pool with water ritual feature, children’s pool and a toddler’s splash pool. When we were planning this multi-resort trip we looked online at The Reserve and were put off by photos we saw of the children’s pool and how close it seemed to the main pool and buildings – in reality this is not a problem at all as although visible it does sit back out of the way in its own area

The grounds were also more expansive and lushly planted than we thought from our previous research which shows why such exploratory visits, if you can arrange them, are so important. The grounds have numerous palapas and chill out areas to sit or sunbathe

For those guests who wish to use the beach area at the main resort there is a cordoned off area specifically for Reserve guests so you should not have a problem finding a shade as the area was quite large. As I said earlier this is only a short walk or quick ride away in a golf cart

Do I think this mini-review is an accurate reflection based on the fact that we were only at the resort for a short period of time??? Yes I do as many travel agents who visit resorts to see what they are like are there for far less time than we were. We were lucky enough to have spent nearly 8 hours at the two resorts, had two meals and were free to roam throughout all of the resort. My review is factual and backed up with a comprehensive photograph album

Reviews are but one person’s opinion of their trip and this is ours. Will it vary from other people’s experience – of course it will as we all have different expectations and holiday measuring sticks. Ours is fairly sophisticated as we are lucky enough to travel a lot and seems to match a lot of what other people who read TripAdvisor are looking for

I can not say one bad thing about the Reserve, the staff or the food. My son and his now wife pick the Reserve for the wedding. I tell everyone not to get marry in the states, go to The Reserve. There was 70 family and friends at the Reserve and I don't hear one bad thing. Some of us are thinking about coming back for the One Year Anniversary.

Room Tip: Swim up, just walk out and into the water. Loved it or any room with a view of the pool.
