Beach was beautiful. Rooms were adequate. Food was tasteless and this includes the speciality restaurants. Some foods including ice cream were not edible. The excursions available were pricey and underwhelming (parasailing and 4 wheelers). The bars were horrible - the one opened 24/7 was closed for cleaning. No consistency when it came to ordering a drink even it was ordered from the same bar and bartender. The casino is riddled with thieves and thugs. Do yourself a favor avoid RIU brand.

Here now, service at all restaurants is slow, pool closes at 6pm,no getting mixed drinks at the restaurant, boring, no music, can't get food after breakfast until noon. Overall service is slow and no good entertainment. Stay away....

After some of the negative reviews on here we were very worried.

We arrived only yesterday but impressions are wonderful.

We requested a higher floor superior room with a king size bed...that is what we got. No mildew smell just a very clean, large bright room with a view of the sea through the palm trees. Excellent air con too.

Due to the time difference we were very tired so just tried the buffet last nite. Staff were really helpful. Glass always topped up! Very good choice of food.

Will post an update at the end of the holiday....let's hope it's still as positive.

Having visited many other Riu Palace Hotels I must be honest when I say this one was not up to the normal Palace level. Firstly, like many other guests I was informed only a matter of days before my planned visit that there was some minor building work being completed, this gave me no time to amend my visit but was assured that it had little or no effect on the guests. On check in we were allocated rooms overlooking what was nothing short of a complete building site, needless to say we requested a room change immediately only to be told that the hotel was full and there could be a possibility of a room change in 2/3 days. I asked to speak to the manager and after a couple of hours they miraculously found a couple of spare rooms well away from the building site, this was not a good start. The biggest problem was that smoking is allowed anywhere in the hotel, I would point out that I smoke but the other people in my party did not and the only area that is completely smoke free and airconditioned was closed for renovation, something that Thomson/TUI conveniently failed to mention. Being as one member of my party suffers from asthma you can imagine the problems this caused, the theatre room was finished 2 days before our return and it was a perfect location. Had I known in advance I would never have booked this hotel due to the smoking issues. On the more positive side the staff are very good and tend to be very helpful and work very hard much like any Riu. The food was also very good but falls just short of what I have experienced at other Riu Palace Hotels, the same can be said about the drinks as they are all local branded spirits which are not the best. My advice would be that is they want to call it a Palace then it should be run as any other Palace and not a poor man’s version, sorry but it’s not for me and won’t be going again.

Room Tip: Not the left side due to construction.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your loyalty to RIU Hotels & Resorts and for taking the time to give us your constructive and valued feedback.

On the one hand, we can assure you that when construction is taking place in our hotels, it is only to improve our services and we do our best to minimize the impact on our guests’ stay.

We regret to read other guests smoking made your stay less enjoyable. RIU always complies with the local laws regarding this policy.

On the other hand, thank you for your positive comments regarding our staff.

We hope to get the chance to welcome you again at one of our RIU hotels in order to deliver the high standards of guest service and quality which are typical at our resorts.

With our best wishes we remain,

This is our last day here, so good to write the review whilst fresh in my mind.

HOTEL:
We had a letter from our tour operator in regards to the construction at the next hotel, this was sorted before arriving so we had a room furtherest from it, but had heard other guests stating the noise from the construction site started as early as 05:30 until 21:00.
Lucky we did not hear any of it. What they failed to tell us was that 1 of the restaurants was closed for refurbishment and also the evening entertainment area.

Apart from this the hotel had seen better days, with various minor repairs going on daily.

We we constantly bombarded with offers to visit the kitchens, and other areas of the hotel for some reason, and kept being told by some if the entertainment team how good they were and that the RIU Palace Macao is excellent. (Self praise?)

ENTERTAINMENT;
The animation team were great, constant conversations, always taking time out to make your holiday enjoyable, but the lack of day time activities let them down.
Evening entertainment very poor, same thing every night, dancers to the same music in different clothes, with a competition with the lady dancers who would wear the skimpiest pair of thongs.
And before and after the main show they have a singer / musician on the patio (it's like being on holiday in the 1920's or a retirement home.

Trust me if you stay here go over the road to the RIU Naboa great lively entertainment much better.

All the staff here are fantastic, never stop all day, looking after your every need. But these ladies & gents are seriously let down by the management & RIU.

I read another review on here about the bar / pool, in regards the urine infested water, they were not wrong, One of the staff told me about the amount shown when they test the water, and the amount of chemicals they use to combat this. Which is mad the toilet is only 1 min walk away.

Would I return????
Would I recommend to anyone????

the answer would be NO....

I have stayed at far better RIU's in the past in Aruba, Mexico and Tenerife.

This should be 5 stars?? More like 4 at a push.
