“If you come to La Romana you have to go!!!”
Review of Shish Kabab

Shish Kabab
Ranked #2 of 59 Restaurants in La Romana
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Though specialising in Middle Eastern cuisine, Yolanda and Juan's menu have a range of local (Dominican) dishes. In fact if you speak to them beforehand, they will endeavour to cater for special requests. Their hospitality is excellent. Prices are reasonable. Seating is available indoors with air-con, and also a renovated outside terrace to watch the world go by. The recipes have been passed from generations and after 46 years, the restaurant continues to develop its menu and deliver an excellent mouth watering experience. Do not forget to try the dishes for which they are most known for, the Kipe and Catibias. The Kipe is a traditional arabic dish made out of bulgur wheat filled with meat and fried to perfection and the Catibia is their version of an empanada made out of yuca instead of flour and filled with a variety of options like meat, chicken, cheese, conch or a combination of these. They are amazing! Shish Kabab has now opened their second location on the Autopista del Coral, it's the highway that connects to the east coast of the island. Coming from Santo Domingo, it will be after the first toll, just before the second one next to the Gas Station Next. If you are coming directly from La Romana, it will be just before the first toll. The new location offers the same menu and has created a cozy, elegant and tropical ambiance that is perfect for a road trip stop for food and refreshments. Their natural juices are a must, in addition of course to the Kipes and Empanadas, which they are famous for. If you are traveling back home from the Punta Cana airport, this will definitely be the best goodbye meal of a lovely visit.

An iconic place in the town of La Romana!!! You have to try the Kibbehs or Quipes in Dominican Spanish with a cold PRESIDENTE beer (always cold here).

The food offering at Shish Kebab is ample and varied. There is exotic Middle Eastern classics such as the namesake shish kebabs, hummus, waraf inab, kibbeh etc, as well as delicious Dominican traditional plates such as mofongo, fried fish, rice & beans, “pasteles en hoja”, stewed goat, all flavorful and exquisitely done. But what is best of all is the hospitality, warmth, and friendliness of the Giha family who own the place.

Recently visited with family, including a 1-year old, to have a snack and drink before going elsewhere for dinner. The food and service were so good that we decided to stay, and had a lovely meal of pinchos. Definitely worth a visit if you're staying in or passing through La Romana.

Always fresh stuff, great service and great local cuisine. moreover, you may try Lebanese food with a Dominican touch as the place was founded by Lebanese immigrants. They opened a second one in the road to Punta Cana. Great stop on the road.

Our last day in the Dominican Republic we decided to try this place since it is #1 on Tripadvisor in La Romana. Firstly, the less that this place has is Mediterranean food so don't expect it. Second, the food tended to be bland, with not much taste and the "bisteck" specifically was really hard. We ordered rice and beans and one of us commented that it seemed like they emptied the can of beans and simply heated it. The baba ganoush was equally bland... At least the tabbouleh was good but the grape leaf stuffed with rice and meat was horrible. We also ordered the lamb chops which were good but not memorable. Lastly, none of this would have really bothered us if the prices weren't so high. We really don't mind paying these prices as long as the food is of great quality, but it wasn't.
The service was OK but it seems like this place is frequented by friends of the owners that have the money to pay for an ok plate and not be bothered by it.
Don't be fooled by these ratings and if you can, save your time and money.
