We just got back from a business trip to casa de campo. We went with about 50 other people, and stayed in the villas. We were pamperd by a maid and butler who made our breakfast every morning, and did laundry if needed. The food was great, the place is fabulous. I took my boots along to go riding. I went on trail rides every morning and also took jumping lessons. The horses used for lessons were very well schooled, and I had a great time, I cant wait to return. Anyone who rides at all- novice or pro- will appriciate the beautiful facility.

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic, so we wanted to go to the best place.
While the golf is simply outstanding, the rest of the resort was not as high quality as we had expected. Service is very hit or miss, which I found to be the biggest disappointment.
For the money, there are far better places in the Caribbean. But if you're only going for the golf, this is the place.

We took two teenagers and a toddler to Casa de Campo for a week at Christmas. Overall, we found this resort to be an excellent choice for a family vacation. Some comments on the basics, plus tips and highlights:

Lodging: we stayed in a villa and it made an enormous difference. Villas are spacious, attractive and include maid and butler service, car and golf cart. Ours had a pool and jacuzzi as well.

Service: everyone from our concierge to our villa staff to the folks at the stables and most restaurants were very service oriented. Having said that, overall they seem to lack the quantity of staff and the training to be able to really deliver. For example, on a few days they had no towels at the beach but came 20 minutes later with them. At the pool, you sometimes had to wait quite a while for a chair. Despite some spotty service at the beach restaurant, overall service was still pretty good.

Amenities: this is a great resort for younger children and particularly at holiday times they go out of their way to have a lot of activities and programs. (i.e., art projects, puppet shows)Babysitters are friendly, speak English and seem to have some experience. The golf was great. My husband said Dye Four was the best course he has played anywhere. The spa is not a full service spa and was a little disappointing but when you're getting your backrub after a long day at the beach, who can complain? Watching polo and going for a trail ride were fun diversions.

Food: we did not use the all inclusive plan. Our villa staff made breakfast every day and we certainly had a lot to eat. we submitted a fill my kitchen order in advance and had plenty of drinks and snacks in our villa for the week. we had a chef prepare dinner in our villa twice and it was above average. we recommend the restaurants at the marina. The marina has a really fun vibe at night. Altos de Chavon was a bit of a disappointment. It was a little sleepy at night and the food at La Piazetta and Sombrero was only fair. The beach restaurant, Pescador, is not so great and doesn't have a lot of choices. Tropicana, the main restaurant at the resort, was quite good.

Other: most visitors there spoke spanish or were from New York. we ran into a few folks from the midwest and a number of italian families who own homes there. Naturally, it helps to speak spanish.

If you are an avid golfer you will enjoy this hotel and The Dye Course and Teeth of the Dog courses. (The caddies are a nice perk). Overall, the grounds of this 7,000 acre resort are impeccably manicured, however, it seems they are more focused on selling the new real estate popping up all over their property than servicing their hotel guests (500 new homes being built). Occupancy was low while we were there, and as a result, service was very slow and there were several areas under construction, one being the swim up bar(check before you go). Additionally, guests receive a golf cart to travel around the resort but you better leave yourself a lot of time as the cart does not travel much faster than 10 miles per hour, so it could take you upwards of 20 minutes to get to the marina for dinner at night. The shuttle buses were leaving every hour, so if you missed them, you were stuck with the golf cart.
