I could write a 100 page book about this resort. I read many reviews on trip advisor before we went, but the reviews are so mixed, it was hard to tell what to believe. I will tell you that this resort is not ran like other all-incusive resorts. Other resorts you just show up and have fun. Here we spent the first 2 days understanding the sytems they have in place.
We booked with Cheap Caribbean, and stayed for a week, and we were bored by day 4. Don't stay longer than 5 days, there is not that much to do and the resort is small. Yes, you can access the Confresi resort, but that is small too. Also, the water is NOT BLUE like in the photos. It looks like regular ocean water. You cannot snorkel unless you book an excursion. You can use a mask, but water is so cloudy you cant see anything. Also there are big huge rocks under the water, I saw several people cut their feet. Also, the beach is not cleaned or combed. There is seaweed and junk everywhere. Also the beach is public, so there are pushy local vendor huts on the actual beach that bug you constantly. The vendor huts also are not in the resorts photos, wonder why..
Definitely pay for the airport transfers with Olympus Tours, it's well worth it, otherwise who knows where you'd end up. Make sure to bring about $200 in singles, because you have to tip everyone to get service at bars, airport, etc., otherwise they ignore you. The drinks are very good, not watered down at all. The pools are beautiful. The grounds are well kept and clean. Make sure you get a room in building 5 or 6. The older the building, the lower the number - building 1 is terribly old and beat up, and very noisy by the pool. As the room numbers go up, the quality of the room goes up. Buildings 1-4 have creepy bathroom windows that people walking by can see into!! Also, the maids are very nice. They take your room towels away at 10 am and dont return them until 4 pm. So yu have no towels all day long. Bring your own towel from home to avoid this issue. Now about the food - it is misrepresentated by Cheap Caribbean. If you book thru Cheap Caribbean, you will be forced to eat every single meal at the buffets. You are only allowed 2 dinners per week stay at one of the restaurants, and you have to present your paper voucher at the given restaurant when you arrive. We were allowed to eat once at Bellini (Italian like Olive Garden) and once at Blue Lagoon (Like Red Lobster). Dont let the website trick you into thinking you can eat at all these places, it a lie. You can however go beg the guest services desk for an extra meal out at the restuants, any they put you on a waiting list, but slim chance you will get it. o I hope you like crowded buffets. Also, the only time the food is good in the buffets is when it first opens. After that it is all gross and cold and touched by people not using tongs.
Then there is the class system- Cheap Caribbean and other "poor people" guests wear a yellow wristband 24 hours a day. This wristband restricts your access to the restaurants, and VIP areas are off limits. The rich people get gold, red or blue wristbands, allowing them access to golf carts, special areas, better rooms, better food, VIP areas, and top shelf booze. Cheap Caribbean also "gives you a little taste" of the VIP life by letting you go to the VIP Beach area. This is the area with beds on the beach, and the only place we could get top shelf liquor. They give you a taste of this good life, then make you wonder how much better the good life is, then the Men In White Shirts start in on you. They hound you until you go on their "tour". We just got it over with the first day, and after that they just leave you alone. So just go get it over with, we told them we were broke and they let us leave after 40 minutes. Really the whole reason why the trip is so cheap is because this is a timeshare place. They want to sell you a timeshare.
Don' t leave the resort unless on a guided excursion - you will see why on the van ride from the airport. Also, do not lose your blue POOL only towel, as the resort will charge you $20 for a new one, they watch over towels by making yiou use a "towel card" to check your pool towels in and out. The entertainment was ok. A few good shows- like on a cruise ship. Also, DO NOT DRINK THE FRUIT JUICE USED IN mixed drinks like the Yellowbird, the Pina Colada, etc. It will make you very ill because it is UNPASTURIZED. The ice and fountain drinks are fine because it is purified water. But the juices make me very ill. I spent the last 2 days of the trip vomiting and severe pain and diarreea. I wouldve went to the ER if in America, but the hospital in Puerta Plata was so scary looking, I'd rather die in the hotel room then go there. I am now on antibiotics for the bacterial infection I got there. Also, it rains there every single day, bring a hat or poncho. Also, the Sunday party is AWESOME!! Great food and entertainment, don't miss it.
All in all you get what you pay for. If you just want to go sit on a beach/at a pool and get drunk and eat at buffets, then this is the trip for you. If you want good food, good service and relaxation then go somewhere else, or pay the upcharges to be a VIP. If we could do this trip over again, we'd have paid more for a better time - and I wouldnt have drank the fruit juice.

Room Tip: The higher the building number, the higher the quality. Buildings 1,2,3 are very old and beat up. Al...

Bring lots of small bill for tips, but it is not required. Do not buy anything outside the resort, unless you are a good negotiator, sellers double or triple the price trying to fool you. Even in the resort, always ask for discount. At the airport, our stuff was stolen from the luggage.
We received great services and were able to make some friendship. Thank you for your excelent services. Special thanks to Rigoberto, Eladio, Raysa, Helen, and Hilario from EL PILON Restaurant, and Nicaury and Edwin Gomez.

The resort itself is quite pretty. The food is sub par, but there is quite a lot of it. I do suggest packing a couple snack for more reason that one. The first reason being, there is nothing open from 5:45 to 6:30, and often you will not get a reservation until 9. The italian restaurant and the asian are doable, the others are simply not. The buffet at the confresi is the better of the buffets. Be very careful what you eat. I got quite sick for about three days. Pretty much ate bread and packaged food from the resort shop ( which is quite expensive). This brings me to the second reason I suggest to bring packaged snacks.
Also, ask how far each excursion is from your hotel, because we booked one that was 1.5 hours on an open air bus: not ideal. We did a zipline/monkey tour. It was cute, but way too much travel for not a lot of time. We were also the first hotel to get picked up and the LAST to get off. They advised us that we would be back by 12:30, and we got back at 2:30.
Next off, do not be fooled by the "VIP" status you will get with cheap caribbean or RCI. The only people who get VIP are members ( gold and black bracelets). The rest all have the same amenities ( the listed restaurants, 'Vip beach" with the sun beads, access to sushi and the vip beach bar). Also, everyone is invited to the ocean world/ bravisimo show, so don't think that is exclusive either. The party was quite fun with live music and decent food, the show was bad. There is a large bus provided that night.

Room Tip: Hmm This is a tough one. We stayed in a desirable building, but the room was "ok" a bed...

The beach for being the Dominican Rep. was OK. Beaches in Cabrera are to die for. The resort for the price is great. The staff is nice, and the food is OK. It's not 4 star, but its not bad like others make it seem. You get a better deal than you pay for!

The only good part about the vacation was the natural part of it. The sun, ocean, and seabreeze. I was so sick day 2 and stayed sick until the states. Threw up 1 time and diarea every 45 minutes. Free food and alchol wasnt worth the price time or hassle. If you go plan on being harrased by the workers and surviving off of bread. They hit on the females 24/7 no matter what you told them
