“The bubbles did give it a champagne effect.”
Review of Champagne Diving

Reviewed 15 March 2010

When we got to Champagne Reef we came upon JT who was a water guide to the reef. He was working for tips. He did help us see things that we would have missed. The visibility wasn't the best that day, but I still enjoyed it. The bubbles gave the champagne effect and that was really neat. JT knew where some sea horses were and took us to them. They were hard to see and if he hadn't shown us I would've never seen them. This was the first time that I have ever seen sea horses while snorkeling. Walking along the rocky beach we saw several iguana and crabs.

We had so much fun snorkleing here! It was an inexpensive entry fee ($2 each??) and then a long walk down a wooden walk way. At the end of the walk way is a rocky beach. There isn't any kind of bench or place to put your stuff. i was a little concerned about this, but in the end it was fine. The shore is rocky and not a beach to sun bathe on. I am not the best snokler, but found it easy to snorkle here. The water was completely clear and the fish were wildly colored. Due to the volcano activity underground, there are tiny bubbles that rise to the surface (hence the champagne name). The water is warm and the fish are so friendly, they come very close to you. The bottom isn't too deep, and i could see urchins moving around on the bottom. Further out it gets deeper, and you could still see the bottom. I did not bring an underwater camera, and wish that i had. This site would have made for some spectacular pictures! There is snorkleing eqipment for rent (don't know the cos as i brought my own), and a changing area. I think they also sold drinks at the entrance. When i return to Dominica I will make this a stop for sure!

We dove after lunch to The Wall & the Champagne Pool in Dominica. I think it was the best time to dive there as the light was perfect to show up the colours. Dominica was our best diving experience so far (we've dived at Rosarios Is, Colombia & Los Roques, Venezuela). There was so much colour in the coral - fluro yellow & orange & purple. We saw 3 of the biggest eels ever, lobster & a frog fish. The Champagne pool was so cool & looked gorgeous & you can really feel the warm water coming through from the volcanic activity below. www.aldive.com - Very professional dive centre - Billy took us & was very thorough in his checks & was very patient with me as I take a while to descend due to not equalizing easy & as I haven't dived a lot he just gave me tips & helped along the way when I had trouble getting down. And he's gonna be in Domina's first feature film - so a budding actor too! Anyway - we loved it there - really cool island!
