Before the start of our Caribbean Cruise, we booked 1 extra night in a hotel in Havana, which gave us some time to explore Cuba. After being referred be a friend, we booked two day trips with WijinCuba. The big advantage of WijinCuba is that these are personal tours, so you can decide yourself how long you take to see a each site, depending on your interest and mood. We also got a Dutch-speaking guide, which was a nice perk. Our tourguide, Roberto Caraballo, spoke Dutch very well and we enjoyed his presence and guiding style a lot! The first day we explored the Vinales region. Although some may argue that the 2 x 2 hours in a minibus to reach Vinales are long, we actually enjoyed it a lot, because we experienced the real Cuba by crossing a large piece of the island. Obviously visiting a tobacco farmer is a must-do when visiting Cuba, which was extra nice because we were the only visitors at that time. Roberto actually changed our schedule, as he saw there was a bus of tourists at the farm initially. The next day, we visited Havana by foot. Especially here the advantage of a private tour was clear, as we decided to explore some sites in more detail while quickly moving on at others. We for sure recommend booking day tours or round trips with WijinCuba!
